there is a fuse in the cigarette lighter plug if not that check the fuse panel for cig terminal when you were wigling you may have shorted the fuse there and possibly both. good luck

That unit does not have an MP3 player. In order to get that functionality, you would need to purchase a device that does have that functionality.

I have a Garmin 255 myself. And what I have found is, MOST of the time, the problem is that the CHARGER CABLE has an intermittent connection in it! So, when the cable moves, flexes, or stretches, the battery charge STOPS, and the (mostly discharged) battery cannot support the load, so the unit blacks out and turns off. Try S-L-O-W-L-Y moving the cable while connected with the unit on, and watch for evidence of a bad cable! Sometimes a DIRTY (trapezoid- shaped) connector will do the same thing!

Do you have enough space left inside the unit to finish the update?Possibly you ran out of space and may need to use a sd card to get all the info your missing or need into the unit.

Some Sat Navs can't convert, If it's bought & set to UK & Ireland maps, then you are stuck. 2nd thing , even if you can use Europe Maps on your Sat Nav, you still will be unable, to load USA maps. Sat Nav not compatable, You will have to buy a NEW ONE.

Not familiar with the 255W but I am sure it will have either a standard USB mini or micro socket. Take it with you to a computer/electronics store. Any good quality mini or micro USB cable that is readily available should provide the connection for you.

You can not copy a map from one identical unit to another because each unit needs a unique map unlock code that is based upon the map id code and the units internal serial number. This GPS will need to go back to Garmin for repair, they really don't repair them but give you an exchange unit, so with prices low just replace it.

Are you sure the power outlet in your car is working? You could have a blown fuse in the car fuse panel and the power outlet is dead.

Unless you can find someone local it will cost as much to replace the battery as a new unit. My recommendation, go find a deal on a Nuvi 40 or 50 ($60-$100) or learn to do it your self and get the battery from somewhere like Batteries plus

because it is old and dead.... no seriously, your cell phone doesn't last 6 years, why do you expect this to? if it does not respond to a power button, powered into a car or plugged into a computer, the unit is toast.
