There could be several causes, but my first thought is a defective storage unit. I assume you backed up to an external drive? They usually don't last but a few years. If the corrupted data is on the same hard drive as the program, I would suggest checking your hard drive for errors.

My file won't open and the backup isn't working
I have had similar problems with an older version of MyInvoices, yet I first get a message saying, "Customer file is corrupted." I actually was surfing to see if anyone has had similar problems with the customer file. I have had to go to the extent of restoring things on another computer and then putting it back on my original computer. I have even, at times over the years, had to delete all of the files from the one computer in order to restore it from the other.
However, there is sometimes an easy fix to your problem: the program intermittently creates "Safe" versions of your file. These versions can be found in the "Safe" folder (which is located in the MyInvoices folder of the MySoftware folder under Program files). There are numerous "Safe" folder which are likely numbered. You can check the date and time that they were automatically created and select the most recent one. However, restoring it this way will cause you to lose any information that you inputted after this date/time. Hopefully you will have a very recent one and will be able to access your data. Hope this helps!
