"Write Protect"?!

It's the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Do the Olympus Stylus 600

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in what's called the EXIF file. Any photo editing/viewing program should be able to show you this data. If you want to print this information, please refer to the documentation for whatever program(s) you're using to print. Depending on the program and printer, you can print the date and time on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post and specify the program(s) you're using.

Lens going in and out on its own. Error Messages

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

You need to check whether the LCD screen is damaged or not. The best way to do this is shoot a picture, and then down load to PC. Check whether the picture is ok or not. If the picture is ok, then LCD is bad. You need to replace your LCD.

If you wan tto do it yourself, the following are some sites for help:

Buy a used camera (one sold for parts) through ebay.com very cheap. Buy a jewellers screwdriver set for $1 from Dollar store. Then replace the LCD.

Without specialised test equipment, diagnosing faults on totally dead electronic devices is near impossible. Even with the right tools it can be difficult.

Unfortunately your camera is effectively now scrap: any kind of professional attention will cost more than the camera is worth and spare parts may not even be available. Your camera was designed to last around five years, so all that can be said is that it has failed a bit earlier than it should have. If your camera has ever been wet or has been covered in condensation (as may happen when moving from the cold outdoors to a warm house) or has ever been dropped then it will have shortened the lifespan.

If you are confident that your camera has never been wet/dropped then it may be worth complaining to Olympus. They may offer to examine the camera but will usually warn that if found to have been liquid/impact damaged then they will charge a fee and return the camera unrepaired to you. Otherwise they may choose to repair it (subject to spares availability) or may offer a discount on a replacement.

When I turn on the camera the screen is black.

Hi,

The black screen problem means the lens sensor is spoiled due to over exposure to heat. Its better to give it to Olympus service centre. If your camera is under warranty period its well and good they will replace the lens sensor for free of cost.

Thank you

The LCD screen is probably broken, it happens a lot. You can replace it yourself by ordering through ebay or the internet, but they start off about $25.00. A camera shop will charge around $125 in my town. My advice is to try to do it yourself, or buy a new camera, they're cheap on sale these days. Good luck!

This can be a problem with the memory card, we can try here first something like formatting the memory card via the camera Menu. You also mention that you can access the memory card when connected to the computer you can also format it from there.
First that you can try again is to Format the memory card using the camera Menu and you can also format it using the computer, just Right click the memory card and select format then after that check if its already working now.
But if still having the same problem after formatting the memory card the next thing that you can do is to reset the camera settings to its default , because sometimes doing that usually correct problem like this.

Remove the existing memory card and keep if for safe keeping. Purchase another memory card - and plug it in. You would need to format the card and use it. Memory cards are cheap nowadays. If your son requires his photos then replace the old card and you can view all the images that he had stored in it. As for yourself you might as well use your OWN memory card.

Is the camera reading the card correctly? If you can see all of the photos in slideshow view, then it should be ok. You can go to Format instead of going to delete to delete all of the photos. Simply format the memory card. It is an option in the camera menu.
