I am not sure if you are trying to simplify the expression or what....
The common denominator for this problem is 40.
2-1/5 becomes 88/40 (5 * 8 = 40, so 8*1 = 8, 8 +2 * 40 = 88)
and 3-1/8 becomes 125/40

You can now rewrite the equation as (88/40) * (125/40) = x
or (88 * 125) / 40/40) = x
that gives you 11000/40/40 = x
x = 275/40 as a fraction, which can be reduced to 55/8 by dividing both part by 5.
or x = 6.875 as a decimal
