E-Mu 1616M Sound Card Questions & Answers
Hello.
i have question about soundcard
Apparently versions of the E-Mu 1616 sound hardware are still being sold, and this is now 2013. My experience suggests that E-Mu is out of business. Creative Technologies has kept the E-Mu site online, but the forms are broken, nothing's been updated for years, the forum is virtually inactive, and Support links are dead or missing. I recently couldn't even find a support contact for Creative (Soundblaster). The 1616 Microdock is a highly capable product, but its software is hard to figure out and compatibility for the constantly evolving Windows operating systems is questionable. Mine currently has stopped working with some of the software it worked with for years (using Windows XP and then Windows 7), and apparently some software (e.g. Audacity) does not support it at all. Online retailers should take this product off their "shelves."
E-mu 1616m freezes and makes an awful tone (deee!) ouch!
What OS are you running? The problem you are having usually comes from a bad driver or a problem with the software you are using. Does it ever do that when using media player or other players? Has it always done it or is this a recent problem?
Have you tried using a different recording software like Cubase or Sonar? If you don't have any others to test with, you can download
Audacity for free. It is an open source multitrack recording software that works pretty well. In case the link above didn't work, the page is at http://audacity.sourceforge.net ... It is cross platform and works with most hardware. Even works with my DIGI 001 rack.
You can also try uninstalling it and reinstalling with updated drivers from the Creative website.
Let me know if I can help further.
Cheers
I'm looking for a driver
As I can see, there are no Mac drivers for this device yet.
You can however use a (virtual) PC emulator or Bootcamp
to be able to start a suitable Microsoft Windows.

I have the E-MU system installed on a windows 7
1. Check for update for you sound card at the manufacturers site this may be the issue.
Some sound cards will not be fully recognized by Windows 7 because the manufacturer has not given or developed a full driver set for the new Windows environment.
EMU 1616 + vaio = BSOD
You need combofix utility, first install on your os and then run it. After complete the process take a reboot and then try to reinstall the driver, your BSOD problem will have been removed.
Good Luck
E-Mu 1616m Mirco Dock Problems
LEE - Couple things to try...
First, make sure you have the EDI cable plugged in between the microdock and the sound card. Yeah... sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised.
Secondly, uninstall the software (CAREFULLY FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL). Once the software is uninstalled, reinstall the software (ONCE AGAIN, CAREFULLY FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL). I've found that if you do not follow the directions word-for-word, things tend to not work.
If the above doesn't help, there's a chance that the microdock is burnt.
Out of curiosity... you didn't plug/unplug anything from the microdock with the microdock powered on, did you? This could be death, if you did...
E-MU 1616. Problem installing drivers
"I am running windows XP proffessional 5.1 on a HP (compaq) dc7600.
Could this be the problem?"
It could be. Bring up your system properties box (Windows key + Pause/Break key). Is that the version shown at the top right on the GENERAL tab?
Is there some reason you have not installed service pack 2 or 3? Of course if you're running an illegal copy of Windows you can't, but I mean any legitimate reason? If we can eliminate the problem with installing the latest service packs we can move forward.
