you need to have the head cleaned.

I have a trv-58 with the same problem. One way is to press play and rewind while in play mode.Getting back to the first of the tape is a chore.
Beeping Sound on Sony CCD-TRV318
Your camera has problem in take-up reel section. it can be mechanical or electrical problem. Skilled/ qualified technician can understand easily what i said.
Insert the tape
There are a variety of things that can go wrong. The process of elimination starts by taking the 2 screws out of the cover and removing. While the compartment is open, push the eject button and observe if there is any motion with gears or not. The main cam gear should rotate a few degrees in one direction and then back. If you see no motion at all then you have problems that are going to require real work. Most often when this is the situation, this main gear, which doubles as the mode switch, is broken and this is a sophisticated repair to replace.
WILL NOT PLAY BACK NOR ZOOM IN OR OUT
WOW! You've realy got some problems. With this combination of failures I would suggest that you may have gotten envloved in some environmental conditions which have caused differing unrelated symptoms all connected to exposure to moisture. The focus data is communicated through a flexible printed cable to the lens and may have the connector eroded by moisture. Ordinarily a cleaning tape should restore playback if it indeed was able to properly record in the first place (same set of heads in use for both record and playback). If the play and rewind buttons do not function you may have another cable problem.
