Panasonic Toughbook 71 Notebook Questions & Answers
I was using my tough book for several months ,
On all Panasonic Toughbooks, I would suggest to physically remove the battery pack and unplug the unit. Then WITHOUT putting the battery back in, try to plug back in the Toughbook and turn on the unit. This is even a suggestion from Panasonic Technicians themselves.
This process will "dissipate" any charge which may be preventing your Toughbook from turning on.
I hope this works for you and Good Luck!

How do i connect to the internet
Well, first you need to have an internet connection. DSL, CABLE, etc. Your internet service provider will supply you with a modem. On the back of the modem you will find an ethernet port. It is a rj45 jack which is wider than telephone. An ethernet cable, usually yellow or blue, is supplied with the modem. This cable plugs into the ethernet port on your computer. This gives you internet capability. All you have to now is open a browser.

Cant run Toughbook on Xp for some reason
It could be your HDD or DVD drive problem.
Try low level format your HDD and re-install XP again.
If it still problem come again then try clean the laser unit of the DVD drive or replaced another one if you can.

You should be able to turn your wireless on by going to connection preferences in your Start Menu.

How can i get wireless connection on my notebook?
as in our chat session, you will need a pcmcia card, cardbus/type-II wireless card, preferably 802.11g with backwards compatibility. the cd that will come with it should install everything needed with minimal user interaction. you can try a usb wireless dongle, but i don't believe most work well with usb1.x. the good news is, although your laptop is old, the pcmcia card specs have not changed much, just make sure that whichever card you pick up has windows 98/98se drivers.

Screen upside down on a panasonic CF-T8
On any Panasonic Toughbook you can rotate the screen as follows:
Hold down the "CTRL" and the "ALT" keys and while holding down
these two keys press the "UP Arrow" key and then release all
three keys. This will reset the screen so it is right side up instead
of upside down.
Good Luck and regards from:

P.S. The arrow keys look like this: The up arrow is the one on the top

Screen stays dark
On ALL Panasonic Toughbook Models,
if the screen stays dark I would shut-off the
Toughbook and connect an external monitor
to the VGA port (15-pin female connector),
which is usually BLUE in color.
Make sure the monitor is ON first, then
turn ON the Toughbook.
If the monitor comes on then your problem
is the backlight or possibly the inverter of the
screen.
If no image is shown on the external monitor
and the screen stays dark and you cannot
hear any startup (ie. Windows) sound, then
your video card may be defective. Very few
Toughbooks fail this way since they are
normally very very relaible but it can happen.
Good Luck

Laptop dies when unplugged
Panasonic Toughbook PC Laptops usually have
very reliable battery pack. When your unit is plugged-in
but the Power is OFF, you should see an LED light as follows:
RED FLASHING: Means the battery needs replacement.
Orange/Yellow Solid: Means battery is charging.
Solid Green: Means battery is fully charged.
NO Light AT ALL: Means that Battery Pack is missing.
There is also a battery calibration utility on all Panasonic
Toughbook PC's manufactured since 2004. This is a factory
installed software and is only present in factory units.
This software may also be downloaded as a driver from the
Panasonic Toughbook website as follows:
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/dl/
Check also in the bottom right hand corner under
Windows for the battery Icon. This will indicate if
the battery is charging, present or not present,
and under Windows 7+ will indicate if the battery
needs to be replaced or not.
Good Luck!
