No pix or diagram, but you'll see a coil spring that provides the retracting function, plus one very small ball bearing that provides the holding function. The ball bearing sits on a dimple in the case and "lodges" itself in a groove in the top plate, so that whenever you rotate the case all the way around once, the ball bearing falls into the dimple and locks the two pieces together until you yank the cord. The cord just wraps around the case and there is enough friction between the cord and the case that as you pull/slide the cord, it winds the spring.What happens most of the time is that the case/plate slips apart and the tension comes off, and/or the ball bearing drops out.I took the plate off the case (a small phillips screw), rewound the spring a couple of turns, rewrapped the cable, very carefully put the ball bearing in the groove, and put the screw back in. It was difficult, and you should do it with tacky paper on your work surface because I dropped the ball bearing quite a few times.Earlier in this column, someone said send it back in for warranty. almost worth it to do that, because the small pieces can be frustrating to deal with.

But if your mouse doesn't work first plug the mouse in the USB slot and check the laser beam under the mouse - if there is no light, the mouse is dead, and you should return it to the seller for replacement. (Such a thin cable of the mouse is very vulnerable and might break easily. More over I find many negative reviews about this rectractable mouse - so if your seller offers to replace it - ask for a different model or test it with your laptop right in the shop before bringing it home.)

3) Or alternatively download and install a free driver updater software, e.g. http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/index.htm - let it scan and update all your missing drivers - it may fix USB general problems if this causes also the mouse problems.

Unplug the power cord on the back and replace it. The computer says 'new hardware detected' and on computer tab. Hope this works!!!!

Try to replace keyboard, you have malfunction in your keyboard.

There are two memory slots which support PC2700/333 Mhz memory, maximum 1024 per slot.

ECS suggests using identical/matched pairs of chips from the same manufacturer for their units.

In most laptops there is an access panel which when removed gives you direct access to the memory chips for replacement. I couldn't find a mainboard diagram for this unit so I am unable to see if the memory slots are adjacent on the board but there is little reason they shouldn't be. You should be able to access both slots once the proper access panel is opened.

If you look really close there might be a label next to the pins. other than that you need to go to the manufacturer's website for the manual.

if you are talking about websites, then using firefox allows you to remember passwords( via tools --> options --> then security; saved passwords)
whenever you go to a website and enter in a password, it will ask if you want to add, then on top of that you can enable a master password to protect that information from showing when you immediately access the particular site.

Make sure that you remove all previous instances of Java on the system and start the process again as the compressed Java file has an error. If the process fails again after you have removed allinstances of Java from your system then try downloading and saving the file instead of installing dynamically via the internet. Then run the installation. This should work OK.

You say your audio drive--I don't know what you mean by that. I assume your sound card (whether it's part of the motherboard or a separate card) is not working.
In this case, I would first check to see if your sound has actually been turned off. Check on sounds in the control panel.
If you try to play system sounds from within the control panel and the little right arrow that you click to test stays gray, then you need to reinstall the sound drivers. Get them from the manufacturer of the computer or the motherboard manufacturer.

You need a replacement DVD player or you can get a DVD RW (Readable Writable).

You can find them very cheap on ebay but I recommand you go to a store and purchase one.
