Navman Tracker 5500i GPS Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
How can i change language?
Hello. If you still have the owners manual, you should be able to look in the language section and go throw it to know how to do the setting for the language you need. Good Luck.
5500 Navman no brightness selection
Its water ingress causing a short in the high voltage wiring PCB.
Open the unit with a 1.5mm allen key, unscrew the power/data cable sockets with a spanner and GPS antenna inlet with an 8mm socket (no antenna socket on i models) .
Where water has arced there will be burning black on the green PCB evident, cut the gold PCB flat wire and remove the section around the burn.
scrape a small amount of green off the gold flat PCB wire so you can solder a new wire to bypass the short. any 2.5mm insulated wire will do to bridge the gap you have just scraped away, there is plenty of room for a 1 inch wire.
Dry the unit and seal with silicone to prevent re occurrence.
Its a 2 hour repair requiring a high DIY soldering standard but off set it against the time it will take to reload you waypoints in a new plotter , its well worth the trouble.

Navman Tracker 5500
I am having same trouble. I contacted Navman NSW and went through all the settings without result. It was suggested that the problem could be the external antenna, if not a fault in the machine. I have seen an after market antenna for about $19 so I might try that. It does seem as though the antenna is not talking to the Tracker.

Connect an automotive 12V lamp to the end of the cable to be shure the cable is faulty ,the voltmeter draws very low current and can be misleading ,a lamp
is better as it draws more current and will detect bad contacts, connect then the voltmeter to the lamp to check the voltage.
If bad cable is confirmed ,contact Navman dealer in Brazil to check if they have the cable.

Mine did the same, and said no gps no fix. I called the factory, now called Northstar, tech said to reset unit, and it worked. Great signal strength. Turn unit on and access menu, access factory settings, hit factory reset. However you will lose all your waypoints.
