Northstar 6000I GPS Receiver Questions & Answers
I have a Northstar 6000i
Probably the data didn't go past 2010. I have a Northstar 951XD, and first time out this year, no more tide track data - my manual says it only went fron 1994 - 2010. So how to get updates?
Leak inside gps
Leak inside a gps is usually just a battery, sometimes they overcharge for to long and when happens the battery deforms and leaks. I have no idea where to send them to for repairs, bbut usually they are not that complicated to get into them and remove and replace the battery, they batteries in most gps units are the same size and usually the same shape as cellphone batteries, they just have different connections on the outside of them, but the insides are usually the same, also you might have one that you can run without the battery in it. I would suggest that you might want to open (if no warranty on it) up carefully, remove the battery and see if you can run it that way. Be advised though that if you do this, any power interruption to the unit while you are driving will cause it to shut down and you will have to start your trip entry all over again. Hope this helps.
Moisture under screen
'standard' problem, condensation build up due to poor design planning... open the chart door for a few minutes and it will help balance the temp indifference between the inside and the outside (there is a little vent in there).
