PD CD-RW 24x1040 external usb2 firmware

This device is meant only for CDs. However, the drive is an internal CDRW with IDE interface. You can substitute some DVDRW drives, but some DVD drives are picky about voltage and amperage. This enclosure is on the weak side for most DVDRW drives. You'll want to find a DVDRW that can work on as low as 8VDC on the 12VDC line. And the drive can't draw any more than .75A on the 12VDC line either. If the drive requires higher amounts, yor system may only recognize the drive as being connected to your system, but it'll never have the power to read the disc, and just kick it out after spinning the disc around for a short time.

How can I get the CD door open on a Pacific Digital CD-RW unit (2.0)?

To get it open: there is a small hole on the front of the unit. Take an unbent paperclip and slowly but firmly push into that hole. The drawer should slide out enough for you to grab it. Not showing up in windows explorer: google for: upper lower filters dvd drive windows (put your windows version here) That will tell you what registry entry to remove. Be careful in the registry. Caveat emptor.

Where can i get a ac adapter for a Pacific Digital

If you can get an adapter with the correct connector, you could try to make your own power adapter, or even convert an iOmega adapter.
The Pacific Digital 1930-24 uses the following pinout voltages: 1 = +12VDC ; 2 = +5VDC ; 3 = RTN/CMN ; 4 = +5VDC ; 5 = RTN/CMN. The pinout DOES NOT follow a clockwise or counter clockwise position. The pinout starts at the bottom with pin 1 by itself, above it is Pin 2 & 4 above that. On the opposite side is 3 with 5 on top. Or you can view the following image: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7204/minidin5p.gif
iOmega external CDRWs have the +5VDC and RTN pins swapped.

I just installed the 8X

make sure you have the latest WINDVD software and latest drivers for the drive. You can go to control panel, perfomance & maintenance, system, device manager, and update drivers. Or just go to manufacture's website and download them from there.
