Sony TV - Loss of half the picture
sarge, it sounds like the vertical output IC went bad on you. If it was a bad connection or a bad capacitor, your picture would have been a straght line across the screen. They call the output section of the IC a push-pull type of amp, so the top half of the sweep IC went out. If you have had some soldering experience, and or experience with solid state repair, locating the bad IC and replacing it is no big deal. If you havent, stay safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair, as there is alot of high voltage inside this puppy that is still present even if the set is unplugged. It should not cost an arm or a leg to repair this set. An honest repair on a set like this if you take it in should not exced 125 to 150 bucks. Good Luck

Why does the power switch does not turn on tv?
You likely have a problem in the power supply of the set or in another area.If the power light is on and or blinking count the blinks to see if a sequence or not---If total dead (no power light etc) follow cord for power inside the set to the line fuse that is there.

Hello Juan Elizondo,Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!To answer your question: This symptom is known as Logic Lock. I would say you don't have exactly the right code programmed into the remote, or the remote is damaged.Unplug your TV and run down to your local TV Repair Center or WalMart to purchase a replacement Universal remote. Plug the television back in and reprogram this remote with your television's code. That should fix your issue.Have a great day!

Tv problems
It's called a loss of vertical deflection. In this particular model your set uses a TDA8172 for a vertical Ic, at board position Ic561.
Replacing that and check or replace the feed cap out in front as needed should restore full deflection. It's not an expensive fix for a qualified shop either.. But my advice is take it into them and save the pu/del charges. And call around to see if they have the Ic on-hand and about how much it will be to replace it before choosing the shop to take it to..
Let me know how it goes!

OUr Tv will not turn on. It also makes a loud bang
DO NOT TURN ON THIS SET.
Take it to a qualified television technician or have a house call made to repair the problem.
The only things which can cause a loud bang from electronics are things you DO NOT want to mess with.
It is most likely a problem with the power supply.

On a Sony TV the top 4-7 cm of the screen
This is a vertical output failure and/ or capasitor failure in this circuit, the repair would cost around 150 at a shop to fix. I don't want to quote any shop's pricing but it should be around this price. If you want to fix this yourself you will need soldering skills and know he dangers of working inside of a tv. If you are failure with these issues, you are looking for a 5 pin ic attached to a heat sink near the flyback transformer, near this part will be several caps, that need tested or just replaced, I am not at the shop right now so i don't have an exact part number or location for this set, but if you want to attempt this repair let me know and i will get you the part number and location for the parts.

Only bottom half of the screen shows, also i need the service menu. How can i get to it. Thanks in advance!
I'm not familiar with this model of Sony, but the picture shows a CRT TV.
If this is so, your vertical deflection circuit has gone bad (it's nothing to do with the service menu).
This can be caused by bad capacitors in the vertical deflection circuit, a bac IC, bad power supply to the IC, bad solder connections, or a combination of any of the above.
In this case I would use a scope to test the circuit to see where to start from. You can always do a visual inspection to check for blown or burnt parts and bad solder connections. Other wise you'll have to have a sevice person look at it.

No picture on half of screen
The vertical output IC is most likely the cause. On a 27 inch TV the generic part number is AN5522 the location number ic IC561. Be careful of dangerous voltages within the TV powered on or off.

SONY KV-27FV310: UPPER HALF OF SCREEN IS BLACK
You have a vert sweep problem and unless you know how to trouble shoot this cuircit bring it to a pro. I found out mostly in these sets that the vert output IC is bad.. Also sometimes the b+ filter cap off the fly is leaky and made the IC to fail. Another thing is Im surprised to hear you got a pic with the vert failure and a bright line in the pic!! This could be a big problem when the sets fixed so dont run it too long like this. It could burn a line all the way across the screen and you will see a dark faint line in your pic because of this. BE CAREFULL!!
