Replace all the electrolytic capacitors [ 5 0r 6 of it] at its vertical scan output section circuit. Check the supply filter capacitor connected to the main supply voltage to vertical output IC; and replace it too. HiThe basic approach is to desconnect the tv set from mains, open the case and reach the speaker(s) for test. To do this you can use a l.5V cell case with the cell inside and place the black wire to the negative side of the speaker (-) and touch with the red wire to the positive side (+). please re tune the EHT screen & focus adjust if possible then change crt base

Usually that problem is cause of the failing capacitors on the power supply section.
You have to do is open the back cover of your TV and look for the actual image of the capacitor with in the power supply section if it is leak/bulged on the top.Please replaced it with the same type,ratings and value.

Hi Simon, I think this is bad news, i would suspect the tube, it could be a video output fault but more likely to be the tube, making beyond economical repair.

The only way to change the source for the 28PW8608/05 is to use the remote. On the original remote, just below and to the left of the power button is the button you need. The image on it is a square with an arrow going into the square from one side. The inputs should go TV, EXT1, EXT2, (EXT3 on some models), Front). Depending on the set top box, you may need to enter the setup menu and set the digital source for the input (Press together Fast Rewind and Stop > Setup > Digital Source) or the decorder (next option in Setup).

If you do not have the original remote, you will need universal remote with an input or source button and to find the code that matches the function. Some codes may only operate the basic functions. (The lowest end universal remotes often lack this feature.) A universal remote that can be programmed via a USB connection with a computer will be the fastest to set up.
