Region free?

This will fix change the dvb312 to region free for an individual dvd. Must be repeated each time you want region free.
Insert the different region dvd.
A message will appear on the screen "check region" (or something like that)
On you remote control press the "display" button. Quickly press the number buttons, "1", "2" and "3". It should now let you play the dvd.
It has worked on mine which was bought in 2003. We have watched a ton of region 2 movies. Good luck.

My Insignia Blu-ray DVD player and our Panasonic DVD player are playing only the sound with no picture. We put the correct imputs on the TV. They were playing fine a few days ago. We have Charter cabl

Sounds like the input board on the tv fried. (45-65$ fix if that's it) Try the same two devices on different inputs , ie change from hdmi to component , or just use hdmi 2 instead of one, you get the idea. Make sure the devices dont work on other inputs on the tv. Then take a different device , like a 3rd dvd player and try it. If nothing works in that input but works in other inputs the tv input board might (likely) need replacing. If the third fresh device does work in that input , it is both dvd players or the cable you are using. (try to use a different cable in the tests than the one you have already used. )

My DVD has no picture

Please check if the DVD players progressive scan is enabled. If it is disable it. You will get instruction in the last chapter of the owners manual under troubleshooting. Or find out how to do a factory reset, because all DVD players come with progressive scan disabled from the factory.

Tv has sound but no image

When you say no image this could mean anything from, snow picture, blank screen, blue screen. Also, dry joints on the PCB can cause such a problem. More especially on the picture tube board.

Dvd wont play

I wonder if you are trying to play burned dvds, if so that could be a major issue alot of players won't play burned disks, others will only play certain ones. another thing I have had problems with, though i don't know a fix. My samsung sometimes has a similar issue where it flat out will not play certain company dvds.

Progressive Scan

On 12/29/2007 at 1135pm, I found the solution for yours and my problem. Here is what you need to do. I did the same thing and couldnt get video. If you set Progressive Scan to ON in error , you must reset the unit. Play your dvd, then press "STOP" to stop the disc from playing. Hold the stop button on the dvd player for approx 5 seconds before releasing it. The video output will be restored to the standard setting, and a picture will once again be visible on a conventional analog TV or monitor.

S-Video Problem.

You need the isolate the problem:

1) Plug the DVD player into a TV
through the same S-Video cable

If the movie plays on the TV, then
the DVD player and cable are OK.

2) Plug another source of S-video signals
(if you have one) into the computer input.

If it works, than the computer hardware & software are OK

3) The third and most likely possibility is that the DISK is
copy protected, and the obedient DVD player is adding
MACROVISION analog copy protection into the S-video
output stream.

S-Video is an analog video format that has two separate
channels: 1 for composite B&W video (i.e. Y, or luminance)
and the other for the color (Chroma). Sound is separate.

Macrovision analog protection technology corrupts the
vertical synchronization and blanking pulses within the B&W
video stream,

which confuses the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuitry
of most VCRs. Bill Clinton passed a bill callsed the

"Digital Milenium Act", which makes such garbage VCRs
compulsory within the US.

Macrovision also adds digital pulses into the invisible
scan lines of the output video stream, which are recognized
by DVD recorders, and possibly your computer, such that
they will refuse to accept or record the movie.

Often a macrovision message comes up.

4) Finally, if the video is fine and you don't have
Macrovision problems, there is a strong chance
that your computer's device drivers are not installed
or configured properly, or there is a hardware problem
within the computer.

In either case, the computer manufacturer (tech support)
should be obligated to resolve this issue (4)

5) Inexpensive Macrovision remover boxes are
widely available by searching Google.

Hope this helps

Dvd freezes during play

Does this happen with all the DVD's
or just one particular movie ?

1) If the problem happens only on a single movie, than there is
a good chance that the disk is damaged.

In this case, you may be able to re-polish the disk to save it.
Many video-game stores have inexpensive gismos for doing
this, and it works just fine.

The reason it does work, is that the video data is stored on
the top of the disk underneath the label, where it is well
protected.

The laser shines from the bottom, through the plastic and
reflects off the label back down into a photo-detector.

If the bottom plastic is damaged or scratched, thus interfering
with the laser transmission, it can be simply re-polished.

2) If the problem happens to many or all DVD's, than the player
is either dirty, damaged, or suffers from a software/electronic
malfunction.

3) A dirty player can be cleaned, using a special
"CLEANING DVD", available from video stores.

4) Finally, if the player actually suffers from a software
or hardware malfunction, the most common cause is
overheating.

Digital electronics are very sensitive to heat, because
(especially in cheap home products) they are running
near the limits of technology.

Excess heat causes the digital signal pathways to slow
down in their ability to propagate ultra high frequency
pulses carrying binary information. These pulses then
get distorted or delayed beyond acceptable limits,
causing digital errors in signal processing.

If the number of errors is small, you may see white
sparklies in your picture. As the temperature and number
of errors increases, the internal computer gets confused
and crashes entirely

This is the cyber equivalent of HEAT-STROKE.

Make sure your DVD player has sufficient cooling and
airspace all around.

5) If this does not help, you may need to replace it.
Fixing DVD players is not practical nor economical.

Hope this helps and informs for the future,

Martin.

No picture but has sound

Hi If your t.v.has built-in blue screen when there is no signal, then the DVD may have been accidentally switched to progressive scan mode, or defaults to that setting if new. If your T.V. is not capable of displaying in progressive scan mode, you will just get a blue screen. If you have an older tv, without blue screen, then connect it to that, and if you get a black and white split screen when you turn on the DVD, then progressive scan is the problem. Check the manual for the DVD player for the procedure to get out of that mode, and it should then work. If you still have no video, and you are using the yellow composite video jack on the back of your DVD player, then it must be brought in for service. Good Luck!
