I am stuck in the Progressive Scan Mode on my DVD

If your TV does not support progressive scan, you won't be able to get out of the blue screen. The only way to solve this issue is to connect the unit to a multistandard TV which has this capability, then in the player's on screen menu, look for anything that would allow you to select either progressive or interlace as its video output (or has progressive on and off feature) - and switch progressive 'off'. This should revert the output back to interlace. Then unplug the combo, reconnect it to your original set, and it should work fine after that.

Not impossible to correct, but a real pain if progressive is selected in a DVD player's output and the TV does not have that feature. Some DVD players have progressive output as a default option in their setup. Reverting it to interlace or turning it off so it matches the TV it is connected to should solve this problem.

I have a Netflix DVD

This is in the General play back options. Press Display on the remote during playback and look for Title number or Chapter Number (use the up/down arrows to select the line and the left/right arrows to choose a selection) or type in a numeric value then press Select/Enter . Alternatively, press Forward/Skip (for the DVD controls) on the unit.

If you remove the disc and then reinsert it, a menu may come up and let you select the chapter/title to view.

I hope this helps.

(if you are using a universal remote, you will need to find the key that duplicates the Display function or use the initial menu or the Skip buttons.)

Progressive scan mode lock on

Remove any DVD from the disc player. You should be in Blue Screen mode on the TV. If it says "Progressive Scan Mode" make sure there is no DVD in it. Close the disc changer and push and hold the "Stop" button on the player, not the remote, for five seconds or longer. It will then unlock the picture

GoldStar GBV241 Dvd Player/VCR Combo skips and freezes

a_tren,

The most possible thing which cause skipping and stalling display are this:

1) The optical lens of your player might have some dust or any small particles blocking the beam of the lens.

solution: if you have guts , open and clean the optic lens using cottons buds. It would not be advisable to apply any liquid to the buds for it my cause blurry or moisture to the lens. Also use cotton buds which is soft at the end and gently wipe the optic lens in circular motion.

if still the same problem? the 2nd cause would be:

2) this time it would be more technical. Most probably the resistance of your spindle motor already change (this normally happens to every DVD player) the normal resistance of spindle motor is around 200ohms. and if there's a change or drop of resistance this would cause skipping and sometimes cause not able to detect disc or read disc.

note: if you try my 1st suggestion and still the same problem. It is advisable to seek a help from a qualified technician.

cheers,
mark
