No matter what DVD we put in, the player stays on "READ"

either the disc you inserted hasn't got a menu. the only thing DVD's do this is because there is no Menu provided in the DVD DISC. In the other case, where it remains "read" the disc might not be clean, scratched, dusty or simply incompatible with your DVD Player. Always clean discs before and after playing them in your DVD Player. Hope this helps, good luck!

Video Cassette is being automatically ejected when I insert it for viewing

You need to take the cover off and look inside to see if there is something inside that should not be. Perhaps you can look with a flashlight through the entrance hole. You could pick up the machine and shake it and see if anything is rattling around. These things have many plastic and nylon parts which can break over time and the machine will sense a problem and eject. If you cannot find a problem by the suggestions above then it will need to go for repair-unfortunately it would probably cost more than it is worth to have it repaired.

When DVD is on it

I'm assuming that the cables are correctly plugged in and the correct input is selsected, as explained in the manual, at pages 10 to 13. If you no longer have the manual get it from here
http://www.retrevo.com/support/LG-GBV241-DVD-Players-manual/id/567ag923/t/2/
I also assumed that you have tried all 3 types of connections that this unit has (Composite, S-video and Component) and the unit behaves the same with all of them.
The image delivered by the unit is in an interlaced format - the normal one, it can't deliver progressive. So it appears that either the tv is set on the wrong format or the there is something wrong in one of them.
Connect the LG to another tv and try it there. If it works just fine then the defect is in the tv - the AV circuit is no longer identifying the signal correctly. A visit by a repairman will be mandatory for that, it will be expensive to fix.

I have a Goldstar VCR and I want to record a tv

Most Goldstar VCRs only have an analog tuner. (TVs do not often have an option to output their video to another device.)

So first what is the source of the TV program? If it is an OTA analog or CATV cable. Set up the VCR normally by connecting the incoming signal cable to the VCR and then use the coax out to the TV. Scan for channels and set the VCR to record the desired program. (Either use the timed record or one touch record method.)

If your source is digital, you will need a set top box (either a digital to analog converter or cable box). To split an incoming OTA signal between your TV and the converter box, you can use a switch or a splitter. (A splitter will give lower signal strength to both the TV and the converter box.)

Depending on the box, you can either connect a coax cable from the box to the VCR and then to the TV or composite video from the box to the VCR. If you use coax, set the converter to channel 3 or channel 4 and record that channel. Otherwise set the VCR to record Line 1.

To record, put in a tape with sufficient space available with an intact safety tab. For One Touch Recording, set the VCR to the desired channel and tape speed. Then press Rec. Press several time for a timed recording. For Timed recording, press Menu > Program. Press Select and move through the list to program day to record, the start/stop time, and channel, etc. When done, press Menu to save the setting. The timer light should come on (most VCRs will turn off).

I hope this helps.

HOW DO YOU

Try this: with the unit on, but no disc inserted, press and hold STOP button on the front panel, not the remote - for 10 seconds, then release. This should turn the progressive scan off and restore your picture on TV (interlace should be the default setting in the DVD player). This trick works for Zenith DVD players as well.

Player connected dvd does not play looks like it

First, try a different DVD. If this activity is present for all your DVDs then the laser either has a dirty lens or the laser LED itself is starting to fail.
If you know how to do it, you can try increasing the bias on the LED, but chances are that will only help for a while, and the laser will eventually burn out completely.
It's time to start looking for a replacement unit, unless cleaning the laser lens fixes the problem.

If the unit reads other DVDs then obviously the DVD itself is defective and not the player.
