Pace out an area that's long enough for you to take 10 normal steps, in your natural stride, without having to turn to one side or the other. Place a piece of tape at one end of this distance, then stand with your toes flush with the edge of the tape. Step 2
Carry another piece of tape with you as you walk straight ahead, taking 10 steps (5 with your left foot, 5 with the right). Stop at the end of the tenth step and place the tape flush with the toes of your leading foot. Step 3
Measure the distance from one piece of tape to the other, in inches, with a measuring tape. Divide this distance by 10 to get your average stride length.
