When this happened to me I was told the thread was old. Sure enough, it was old thread and now that I've replaced that old (20+ year) thread all is fine.
I MERELY WOULD LIKE TO
These computerised machines have a minimum of moving metal parts and many gears are nylon. In the manual it may tell you to brush out the rotary hook/bobbin holder area only. This is important, do it regularly to keep the bobbin area clean. However, it probably also says to have the machine serviced by an authorised technician annually. He will then lubricate internally and top up any wicks within the machine. There may be a wick in the middle of the bobbin holder, it will look like a bit of fluff down a hole. You could give this a drop of oil, along with any parts you can see where metal moves over metal, use clear high quality sewing machine oil. Perhaps every 3 months or so, but brushing out all lint is very imporant.

YOu can dowload a manual for the Elna 7000 from here

However, I'm not sure what you actually mean, do you mean how to program it to stitch out letters?
If so, the instructions for this are on page 28
Each stitch that shows up on the selector bars at the top has a number so to choose it, you just type in the appropraite number using the 0-9 keyboard, then press the "select pattern" key. The top selector bars turn so you can see the different range of stitches but the A B C D part doesnt come into actually chosing a stitch.

You may have a broken gear but I do not advise opening any part of a computerized machine, you will need a specialist otherwise you could blow the computer boards with static
My Elna Stitch Craft 4000 sews very small stitches even after I adjust the length?
It sounds like there might be an issue with the settings or mechanism of your Elna Stitch Craft 4000 sewing machine. Even after adjusting the stitch length, if it continues to sew very small stitches, there are a few things you can try:
1. **Check the Stitch Length Dial**: Ensure that you are adjusting the stitch length dial correctly. Sometimes, the dial may not be turning properly or may be stuck, leading to the machine sewing at the same small stitch length regardless of your adjustments.
2. **Clean and Oil the Machine**: A sewing machine that hasn't been cleaned or oiled in a while can have issues with stitch length consistency. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to clean out any lint or debris from the machine and oil the necessary parts.
3. **Inspect the Feed Dogs**: The feed dogs are responsible for moving the fabric through the machine. If they are not functioning properly or are obstructed, it can affect the stitch length. Check for any debris or damage to the feed dogs and clean or replace them if needed.
4. **Check the Bobbin Tension**: Incorrect bobbin tension can also cause irregular stitch lengths. Make sure the bobbin is correctly threaded and that the tension is adjusted according to the machine's specifications.
5. **Test with Different Fabric and Thread**: Sometimes, the type of fabric or thread being used can affect stitch length. Try sewing on different types of fabric with different threads to see if the issue persists across various materials.
If none of these steps resolve the problem, it may be necessary to have the machine inspected and serviced by a professional technician. They can identify any underlying mechanical issues that may be causing the small stitch length problem.

How do I fix the tension on my Elna Stella air electronic sp?
The following is an excellent video on how to check tension. She shows how to check bobbin tension and top thread tension (presser foot down). Then how to adjust top thread tension to get the stich to sit at mid fabric.
https://youtu.be/YF7EOCvpHLg
Thread nesting on the bottom side is almost always top tension too low or top thread is not in the tension discs (when foot down) but can also be top thread not feeding evenly, or a burr on either the bobbin case or hook race or debris in the hook race, or needle hook interference.
Always be sure to thread your machine with presser foot up. With foot up, the tension discs are separated to accept the thread.
Dont know what type of fabric your curtains are. You might try test sewing with a different tight weave cotton fabric just to see if it you can get it to work.

Zig zag not working on Elna Carina seeing machine
If the zig zag function on your Elna Carina sewing machine is not working, there could be a few possible causes:
- Incorrect stitch selector: Make sure you have selected the correct stitch on your machine. Double check that you have selected the zig zag stitch, and not accidentally switched to another stitch.
- Incorrect stitch width: The stitch width knob on your machine controls the width of the zig zag stitch. Make sure that the stitch width is not set to zero, as this would prevent the zig zag function from working. Adjust the stitch width to the desired size.
- Tension issues: If the thread tension is too tight or too loose, it can affect the zig zag stitch. Check your thread tension to make sure it is set correctly.
- Clogged machine: Dust, lint, and debris can accumulate inside your sewing machine and affect its performance. Clean your machine thoroughly, including the bobbin area and the feed dogs.
If none of these solutions work, it may be necessary to have your machine serviced by a professional.
