There is a red x

this is actually a serious problem and there are well 2 causes one is a hd sensor, the 2nd is the hard drive has actually lost its place for better terms.
The first fix is is simple and takes alot of time. But basically what happens is the lens on the inside of the hard drive skipped a beat from either being dropped or unplugged in the middle of transfering. If you were to take it into apple they wouldn't fix it under warranty or take it in return cause they consider it from being dropped. An it will cost you more then the units worth to get it repaired from most places..
first you can basically let the battery die. Let it sit with the red x until you cant get it to turn on anymore. You have to essentially discharge the battery. Leave it discharged overnight. Once the battery is fully discharged you need to allow it to fully charge. Once it fully charges it may come back and start working this only works on about 30% of iPod classic units. In some cases i have seen people just able to plug it in and let it charge for 4-6 hours and it will start working. but if, when you try to charge the iPod it shuts off after 5 minutes, your gonna have to let the iPod discharge.

Ok so now if that didnt work and you have discharged the ipod and recharged it there is only one fix left that many people have done and swear by. I myself had to use this on 100s of ipod classics and it works.
Reset your ipod by holding the middle and menu button until you hear clicking or immediately when you see the apple icon. then with one hand hold the ipod firmly and hit the side of it onto the palm of your other hand. I mean you really have to smack the iPod as soon as you hear that clicking or you see the apple icon. Sometimes this jumps the needle back into place but not all the time and may take a few times to try. Some times it takes 50 smacks to get it to work but it does work. I have known people who couldn't smack it hard enough so theyd hit it on a counter or table top, but dont do that the first 10 try's. Use this only as a last resort to the discharge/recharge fix.

heres a video that outlines the same thing in words. But doesnt show it being done.
Now if it took smacking your ipod to work when it comes back it should have all of your music. But in 10% of the cases it may not have all of the data left on it and it will ask you to repair or reformat. You will most likely have to reformat and lose your contents so i hope you have your library backed up but as i said thats only 10% of the time.

My ipod freezing just appear apple logo

Hi egg huevo...

When the Apple Logo is stuck
If this happens, put the iPod into Disk Mode through the diagnostic menu. Then connect the iPod to your computer and update or restore the iPod.
Sometimes you can get away with just updating the iPod, so try that first, but usually you have to restore the iPod .
As always make backups of your music files, because the restore procedure will eliminate them.

Volume does not go down

Take it to the apple store, they will help you and most likely fix it, trying to fix it yourself will only make it worse.

I will try and make this as short as possible and

You can't "backwards sync" (put music from your iPod back onto your computer) through iTunes. When you went to sync after you got your fixed computer back, I'm assuming iTunes tried to copy what was in iTunes (nothing) to your iPod, which probably is what caused these problems.

Assuming you still have the music on your iPod, I would recommend transferring the music from your iPod back to your computer (to a folder other than iTunes), restoring your iPod to factory settings, then moving all of the music files into iTunes and re-syncing your iPod.

There are two programs that are available to transfer songs from your iPod back onto your computer. The first is iDump and the second is YamiPod. I have found that iDump is the better of the two.
The link for iDump is:

Hope this helps!

What could be the problem

Be sure to connect the charging/sync cable directly to the computer, not a USB hub. Most hubs are don't provide enough power to the usb ports to charge the ipod. If you need a method of charging the ipod while away from the computer connect your sync cable to a device like these: Even the USB port on Apple keyboards is not able to charge the Ipod.

If you're using the computer to charge the Ipod, be sure it stays on, when computers go into sleep or standby modes they stop charging your ipod. You may want to use one of the options below to charge your Ipod when the computer is off or in a different location than the Ipod.

My IPOD Classic will not

It is indicating a Hard Disk failure. The clicking sound you are hearing is the head hunting for data on the Hard Disk. Normally it should happen in seconds.
This is a sound one should dread on any device which runs on a Hard disk. It spells death and one has to go through the nightmare of recovering precious data or files from the HDD !! . If you give it to the Ipod service center they will recover all your data and reload it onto a new HDD and return your Ipod as good as it was before this failure.

  6. Click Apply.

The play/pause button on my 80GB Ipod classic has

I have seen this.

One thing you can try is getting a can of 'air' see, the device gets 'buildup' underneath the click wheel causing it to not respond, and unless you know how to disassemble and clean, this is your alternate fix.

So... with the canned air, you have to be careful as when you spray it into device it will freeze things temporarily if you spray to much at a time, you must use quick direct sprays into and around the wheel, so quick spray, less than a second, wait like 40-50 seconds and doit again, working around the wheel.
hope it works!
