When you connect the charger, if the light goes to red to green within a few minutes and the battery power does not last more than 1-2 hours or less, it may indicate that that the batteries will not take a charge anymore and need to be replaced. This can happen if the power chair is stored without being charged for a while. Batteries retail $75-$150 each depending on the model and brand, you will need two of them.

LOOKING FOR CONTROLLER FOR HOVEROUND MPV5

Those are only available through Hoveround and retail for around $1159.00. You may want to have a Hoveround Tech come out to diagnose the power chair for $50 to make sure that is what you need before spending that kid of money.

Im getting a mvp5 tomorrow and is it safe to keep

Would you keep your cellphone, laptop computer or other expensive electronic device inside a closed car in the summer heat? If yes, then your power chair should be fine. If you feel the heat is too intense for other electronic items, then it is too hot for the Hoveround. A few hours may not be bad, but extended storage in extreme heat may cause damage that may void your warranty.

The green light on the charger usually indicates that the batteries are fully charged and you are ready to go. Does the controller show the batteries are fully charged? Can you operate the power wheel chair for several hours? If so, you are good to go.

I can not get the wheels to lock in the drive

If you are lifting the manual brake levers up but they will not lock into place, there may be an issue with the motors. Check to see if the tires are leaning into or away from the center position, with can indicate a bent frame. If the axle is bent, the brakes will not engage and the motors and/or mounting brackets may have to be replaced.

How to Diagnose Trouble Lights on Hoveround Power Wheel Chairs

Here is a link with descriptions of the flashing controller lights for most power wheel chair controllers. This will allow you a fast diagnosis to save time and money on your repair; it may be as simple as a brake reset instead of a costly motor replacement! The first page you will see is especially for Hoverounds, but you might be able to find other brands if you know the manufacturer of the controller.

If the horn won't work, the batteries are dead. If the charger is showing green lights, most likely the gel inside the batteries has gone solid from the chair being stored for a while. Replace both batteries with type U1, 24v, 33 amps and see if that will clear the problem. The fuses are regular automotive type fuses.

The second row of lights in the speed indicator. The two bottom buttons will increase and decrease the speed. The lower left button will decrease, the lower right will increase. You will see the second row of lights get bigger or smaller as you press those buttons to increase/decrease your speed. When the second row of lights is fully lit, you will be at the top speed.

The battery wont stay charged

If the charger is automatically giving you a green light when you plug in the charger, the batteries are most likely damaged and will no longer take a charge. This can happen when the power chair is stored and the batteries are not charged for a while. The green light on the charger indicates the battery is full, but instead of being full of power, its full of crud. Try to replace the batteries and see if that will solve the problem.

It sounds like the power chair may have been sitting for a while; if so, the gel inside the batteries has probably solidified and they will no longer take a charge. Try replacing the batteries (u1, 12 volt, 33 amps) and see if that does the trick.

If you mean the manual brake release, it is in the FRONT of the power chair, just above the footrest, in an opening 3" square. The two black levers need to be pressed DOWN to release the brakes so the chair can be pushed and then raised UP to restore the motor function. Some scooters have a manual reset button towards the rear of the machine, but the MPV5 does not.

Batteries full charged, the controller will not

The controller for an MPV5 retails for 1159 dollars. Even if your insurance is out of network, try to see if they will give you an exception as the price is still lower than the cost of a whole new power chair. At the very least, you may want to pay 50 dollars for a technician to come out and properly diagnose the problem. It may be something simple like a loose connection. Try again, Hoveround has joined a new network that may be able to help you.

My mpv 5 turns on and horn works but wont move

Make sure both manual brake levers are in the UP/DRIVE position. They are located just above the footrest between where your ankles would be. If they are both up and there are no flashing lights on the controller, the motors may be bad.

Where do you find the serial number

Just above the footrest, there is a 3" square opening with two black knobs (manual brake release). Look inside the opening, there should be a white or silver sticker with a 6 digit number, that is the serial number.
