Take it to the Apple store first. Only if you're not under warranty you can try a firmware restore. If that doesn't help it's a hardware issue with your logic board. The logic board can be replaced by a tech savy user and the part is available on common auction websites. Try holding power button and home button down for 10 seconds. It should reset.

Hi Hunter You are using an Apple iPod? so all your music that you purchased from the iTunes store is still on your account in the iTunes store. Use your computer to log into iTunes. Use your Apple ID & Password to look at your account and see your previous purchases. In future always keep a copy of your music on your computer or USB Stick or External Hard Drive or CD or DVD. Only if you made a backup in iTunes. I think you still can make a backup, if you have iTunes on your PC or MAC If you don't have the iPod "open" i don't think it will. If you have a backup on iTunes, and you did reset the iPod, after you connect it to iTunes it will ask install as existing.

Plug the iPod into a high-powered USB port, let it sit for 2 hours, then disconnect it. If you have a wall charger, plug in the iPod, then follow these steps while it is still plugged in.
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears
Immediately switch your figures to press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top.
For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen, restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory settings).

According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the IPod by doing the following:
Connect your IPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one IPod synced with), and open iTunes.
When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.
If you can't unlock IPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod.
Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod.
If you want to change the primary computer that your IPod is associated with, do this:
1. Restore your iPod. WARNING: The restore process cannot be undone.
All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer.
3. Open iTunes and synchronize.
Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't have access to the primary computer, your only option is to restore the IPod, which will erase all music and data."
