The compressor will not stop running

There are a few easy ways to troubleshoot this problem. The first thing you want to do is open either the fridge or the freezer and place your hand on the middle piece of metal that runs vertically from the bottom to the top. If this piece of metal is hot or very warm to the touch then you have a problem with your condenser fan or the airflow from it. To take care of this remove the bottom kickplate from the unit (the long piece of plastic down by your water filter.) This just snaps off from either side. Take a flash light and look at the coils underneath. If they are coated with animal hair or dust vacuum them and place your hand on the left side of the water filter and see if you have a decent flow of air. If the coils are clean, the compressor is running and you have no air flow then you most likely will need a new condenser fan motor. If the coils underneath are not dirty and you have good airflow down there then the most likely cause is a low charge on the compressor. Basically the compressor keeps running because it is working too hard to maintain the desired temperature.

Control lights are out

If the unit is dead and there are no lights or cooling, you will need to replace the control board on the back of the refrigerator. Here is the part you need.

The water dispenser bar on my side by side

Hi Cranberry,

The part your looking for is #8201537. You can see it here.

Threading it through the door is simple if you know the secret to it. First you need to go to hardware store and get something like this about an inch, inch and a quarter. Take a piece of 1/4" tubing with you to make sure the "all-thread" will screw into the tubing snugly.

Now, screw the all-thread into the spout end of the existing tubing (the one in your fridge right now) about half the length of the all-thread. Then take the tail end of the new tubing and thread it onto the left over stub of all-thread.

Open both doors and remove the bottom grill (it's snapped in place) then close the doors. Below the freezer door hinge, you'll see the tubing coupling. Disconnect it and remove the ferrule for use on your new tubing later. Now at the same time, begin pushing the tubing from the top and pulling it from the bottom.

Hi, I have a KitchenAid

This is a fairly common problem and is likely caused by the failure of a concealed fan that is responsible for distributing cooled air from the freezer section to the refrigerator side.
SearsDirect parts department has full information on your KitchenAid fridge at the link below:

The fan I suspect is shown here:
Distribution parts
Looking at the various pages should give you an idea if you consider this a DIY task or call a pro.

Center partition wall of refrigerator is hot !

Sounds like your condenser fan isn't working...Take the back cover off to see if there's anything stuck in the fan blades. Usually when the fan stops, the compressor & tubing that runs between the doors get really hot. You may also want to clean your condenser coils.
