33600 not staying hot.

According to West Bend, not cleaning it, especially the heating unit well, will cause this. Here's the link for your manual. Go to page 3. This manual covers 3 models, including #33600. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/189911/West-Bend-13500.html#manual

Intermittent power in 33600 coffee maker

Possibly a short in your power cord. Try plugging into a different outlet before replacing the cord. Also make sure the contacts where you plug the cord into the coffee pot are clean and not loose/broken.

The West Bend Large Capacity Coffemakers do not use replacement filters. The manual for the West Bend 33600 Large Coffee Urn is available here:

http://www.westbend.com/supportdata/L5613B_LargeCapacityUrns-All.pdf

Use an electric perk or regular grind coffee in the percolator basket rather than a 'drip' or finely ground coffee that would require a filter.

If you require a new basket, please see the West Bend on-line replacement part site here:

After it's very first use, and it was for heating

I read your question but I am slightly confused... I see that you use it to heat water only, I presume that it is for tea or hot choc. Since you say it is new... Have you always used the perkolator parts? This unit is not designed to work without these parts. There is a thermocouple that helps regulate the water temperature, If the perk parts (the basket and the rod placed correctly in the bottom heating element) there is a good chance that is causing a problem. Try 1/2 pot of water and the parts I mentioned in place (as if you were going to perk coffee) and try it again, I think it will heat correctly and give you satifactory results. As far as the "blackening" it maybe "Brillo'ed or SOS pads to clean unless you have the plastic basket, the metal parts can be scrubbed. I hope I have understood your question correctly. Good Luck!

On plugging in the Urn

There is a short in the unit somewhere. It can be the power cord or it can be internally in the coffee maker. You can test the power cord before replacing it with a multimeter. Set the multimeter to OHMS. Take the power cord and connect the red probe to one connector on one end of the cord. Touch the black probe to both connections at the other end. You should only get a reading on one of the connections. Repeat this with the other connector. If you get a reading on both connections then the power cord is shorted out and must be replaced. In other words you should only have continuity on one of the 2 wires in the power cord. If it shows continuity on one connection on one end of the cord and 2 connections on the other end you have a short.

Is our West Bend 33600 commercial urn 100 cup

As far as I know it does not have a spring. (At least the one we have where I work doesn't have a spring and it seems to work fine without one. But the urn was there before I started, so maybe at one time it had one.) Replacement parts are available here, and they list a stem but don't mention any spring.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!
