LG RH177 DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder "blu ray player check" Questions

when I put blu ray dics in player it says check disc on everyone I put in but plays ordinary dvds?. It also says errors when blu rays are inserted. Sounds like its not a blue ray player. any more info
