Runs and stalls? Sounds like a fuel filter to me there are usually two, one by the firewall under the hood and another alone the frame rail under the car. If it was a spark issue it wouldn't even fire. So I would say its a fuel issue for sure.
sounds as if there is sticky gum in the carb that is keeping the float from seating unless it is hot enough to unstick. Take the carb bowl off and examine it for gum (real old gasoline will do that.
remove the fuel cap if the engine keeps running then your vent pipe for the tank is blocked or you have not fitted this back on when fitting the new tank. the vent tank has a sensor that regulates the volume of air into the take if its not connected the fuel will not flow properly.
Sounds like the ignition module on the fender. You would need to know if you are missing spark to the plugs when it quits running. The carb would not run out of fuel then suddenly have fuel again.
Check the steel fuel line under the intake manifold had one that was almost completely clogged shut with **** took a month of hunting but found this to be the problem
sounds like the fire is good, you might try replacing your fuel filter first and if it still has the problem then the fuel pump, do you hear the fuel pump whirring when you turn the key on? thats what the sound is that you hear when first starting the car, it will whirrr and then click letting you know it has proper fuel pressure
Air mass meter by the sounds of it, or possible contamination of fuel. what fuel system is it? Could be over fuelling have you got any modifications on the car? Great car by the way I love them old S1s.
