Derestriction can be on a few places. (Clocks,Gearbox,carbs) But generally on the ZZR1100c models you can buy the standard deristrictor plug it in and away you go. www.bikepartsonline.co.za

The fuel mixture is probably running too lean. Old, hardened rubber seals between the carb and the cylinder are letting un-carbureted air into the fuel/air mix.
Assuming the clutch is operating properly the problem sound like it lies in the gear case, possbily a worn or bent shift fork, sorry but it sounds as if you will need to split the cases.

The spec sheet doesn't say if your model has fuel injection or carbs. Assuming carbs, disassemble and clean them. You will want the shop to balance and sync the carbs as well. This should get you back on the road in style.
