You actually have two issues the fuel sending unit is faulty thus the gauge issue and the canister close valve is stuck closed not allowing vapors to leave tank properly not allowing fuel to fill up properly

The gas gauge on my 2001 Nissan Altima shows full when filled up, but only tets to 1/2 full when it is near empty. Suggestions?

Either the fuel tank sender in the tank is bad and needs replacement, or the fuel gauge is faulty. I would bet the one in the tank is probably bad, because that's usually the case. Find the connection at the fuel tank, disconnect it and use a VOM to get a resistance reading while the tank is empty and reading 1/2. It should match the specs.

How to adjust gas gauge to read right not reading way over filled like it does now. When 1997 chev 350 vortec truck gauge is at 1 st red mark close to empty, better not past gas station ! ! !

the fuel level sender is inside the fuel tank, part of the fuel pump assembly. did you or was the tank replaced before??they may have bent the float arm on reassembly . you can buy the sender from your parts supply store .you will have to drop the tank to do this it clips onto the side of the pump assembly. run it almost dry first as the tank is big n very heavy even 1/4 full. you can try to bend the old arm

but its very hard on the "sender" as for level indicator full to empty, think of the shape of the tank narrow at top to widest point in the middle (full to half) wide middle to narrow bottom( half to empty)

its just an overall volume thing

Town and Country Van running out of gas and guage says half a tank what could be the problem?

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

Dash gas gauge stops showing proper gas level once it hits half a tank. Then gauge will fluctuate between empty (light will come on), full and anywhere in between but seems fine from full tank to half

If the trouble with the gauge started after you worked on it then you likely damaged or created a restriction to the movement of the sending unit. You will have to remove the tank and double-check your work.

How can i get to the fuel tank send unit only reads half full

well if you have it an empty fuel light came on to your dash, then you have travelled and just consumed the whole entire reserved gas in your tank, so when you are filling it up again, it will fill-up first the reservoir for your reserved gas then if it reach the minimum level of gas in your tank, then the fuel sensor unit will tell you now the exact amount of gas level on your gauge just keep filling it up (gas), DO not Press the entire trigger of the pump, just press it half way and moderate while filling -up gas so wont stop clicking and you thought that you have your tank full already but it was not.

The fuel guage on my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica jumps around

The problem will get worse, to the point that it will leave you stranded, out of gas. The solution is simple but most dealers don't catch it. They try fuel pumps, computer updates, sensors and the problem persists. You can fix this problem yourself and without spending a nickel. Want to know how I know? I've owned two Pacifica's and both have done this. Here's why: The Pacifica has a very unique and poorly designed fuel storage system. It uses what is refered to as a saddle tank. This is so they can use the same tank in both the all wheel drive and the front wheel drive versions. If you look underneath you will see it actually looks like two tanks. The driver side is the fill side and the passenger side is the delivery side. There are actually two fuel pumps, a main pump (pumps gas to the engine) and a equalization pump (pumps fuel from the the fill side to the delivery side of the saddle tank. The problem that you are experiencing carries with it several symptoms; running out of gas when the tank is half full, the gas gauge dropping suddenly at half full, and the inability to pump more gas into the tank without shaking the car back and forth and/or pumping very slowly. This is because of the way the two sending units inside the tank send their signals to the gas gauge and the fact that only when the fill side of the tank is 100% full, can some of the gas flow over the top of the hump to the delivery side tank. You can replace pumps all day long and most likely still have the problem. So what's the fix? It's simple. Underneath the vehicle, inline with the emissions lines going to the gas tank, about middle of the vehicle, there is a small plastic air inlet filter about the size of 50 cent piece mounted to the floor of the vehicle. It is responsible for venting the tanks pressure, allowing fuel to flow into the delivery side tank. It get's full of dirt and debris. Replace it a cost of about $3.50 or just blow it out with compressed air. If you don't want to do it yourself, help those dealers out - point them in the right direction, or else they will be running in circles trying to fix the problem. NOTE: this is only a problem on Pacifica's, not other vehicles. More info on this issue here; http://www.dodgeboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/my-crazy-gas-gauge.6381/

Says gas is empty but when at the pump its stops filling.some gas exits back from the tank, I figure its my pin any way to find out if im full or not?

What Pin? Your sending unit is most likely worn out,on a 19 year old vehicle. Pull gas tank and replace complete assy, fuel pump and all, while your there.

We just got a 1988 Porsche and filled with 1/2 tank, there was what seemed like overflow happening - Any idea what may be the problem.

fuel tank vent could be blocked by mud/pebbles etc, not letting the gas fumes escape while your adding fuel making it overflow, check underneath the car near the fuel tank .. something to start with..

1995 Saab 900 Won't Take A Fill Up

Sorry if this gets posted twice. I have a 95 Saab 900, which I just acquired. I can get only about 4 or 5 gallons in at a time. The best analysis I found was this one where the man pinpoints a stuck valve in the gas tank, and tells of what he did to address it.: http://www.quasimotors.com/9_5_gas_fill_prob.htm
