So ive just replaced both stator & rectifier with the ricks mosfet version but have found that after wiring the stator to the rectifier, I then go to wire the rectifier to the bikes harness and there's a 5th wire spare on the loom once the positives & negatives are joined. Can anyone elaborate on this?
I've soldered all joints instead of the rubbish block connectors.
all I can think is that owing to the new rectifier being mosfet and already earthed that the 5th spare wire is an earth for the old type but now redundant rectifier?
is this the case?
if so is it ok to blank off and leave or do I earth it out to the chassis??

Sounds very much like the starter motor relay. Try the old trick of putting a screwdriver over the contacts..

SOURCE: wire connector between stator & voltage reg/rectifier burnt

your voltage/reg. can be tested in a couple different ways check ground res. check res. then revs. bias on diodes you have ac in dc out it sounds like you may have a diode gone bad allowing ac curent to flow causing the wires to get hot

Your rectifier is the problem .A rectifiers job is to save the wiring from over heating .it will only allow a set & safe voltage through your wiring ,any highter .and the wires will melt .They do break down ,either letting in too much current or to little .The new unit can be tested quite easily .Connect all the wires start bike check the voltage out put from the battery .13.4 volts is the hightest it should go ,no more .

Best bet is to take the rectifier back to where you brought it with the old one and ask if they are compatable .connecting up the wrong wires could damage the new unit .

There are two parts to the charging system. The stater the thing with all the wire windings. And the magnets that are in the steel shell that fits our it. You have to check and make sure that they are not damaged in any way. If they hit anywhere it will not work.

Not sure what you're dealing with, but it sounds like a short in the stator, as grounding the stator by putting a bolt in pops the fuse. Repair or replce the stator.

2002 zx12r battery keeps goin down, replaced stator regulator and battery ran for about a month and same thing happened again. what could be the problem?

If you have replaced the stator, regulator/rectifier, and the battery I would suggest running continuity test on the wiring that is in the harness to check for breaks or bad connectors.

Something like that sounds like he simply missed a connection on the upper harness. There is a connectors over and to the left side of the engine. Check all the connectors.

Hi,,,if your battery is not charging and you have a rebuilt staor,,then your regulator/rectifier is the cause,,its job is to charge the battery.
