89 kawasaki ninja 250 crank no start

I have an 89 kawasaki ninja 250 i was given from a friend. it didnt run at the time but i wanted a bike so i took it (it was free!). this is my first bike and i dont know much about them. anyway i cant get it to run, it will crank but wont start. if i spray starting fluid in it it tries a little harder. i did clean the carbs what i though to be pretty good. it doesnt seem like it is getting gas, but there is no prime on the shutoff valve, although it will drip out of the gas line from the tank. i was told this bike had some kind of vaccum system for the fuel, (something i know nothing about). my budget is kinda low or i would take it somewhere but it seems like a waste of money if it something small i can fix myself. i have spent half the summer tinkering with this thing and i just wanna be able to ride, if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

Ok i have one and i just fixed mine you need to drain the fuel from bottom of carbs and drain the tank also. then replace the spark plugs once you do that add new fuel in tank and drain the carbs again unitil good fule start runing out then shut them off. aftre that make sure there are two line connected to the petcock from the carb. spray soem starting fluid in the air box and chock it boom it will start. if it has spark.

I have a 1994 Ninja Kawasaki 250 but I no longer have the keys for it. I tried taking off the gas cap to get a copy of the key but it wont come off. Now I took off the 8 screws that keep it in place. Once...

I used to have a 87 EX 500. Just about the same bike.
It locks to the inside edge of the fuel tank and it seals tight so its not going to come off.
If you can load the bike in a pick-up and find a locksmith that can cut a Kawasaki key, they can be pretty good at cutting a blank. They may also be able to pick it and then make you a key.

Kawasaki Ninja 250 running problem

This could be due to timing screw being incorrectly set
Locate gold timing screw on the carbrettta turn it clockwise only slightly till bike idles without choke on, Then when choke it on it should idle a touch higher.

Would the fairing parts of a 2006 kawasaki ninja 250 fit a 2005 kawasaki ninja 250?

Yes I do believe they do. Try going to Powersportseast.com Look in the shopping section on the left of the homepage. You will want to use the parts fische and load the info for your bike. It allows you to see what the dealer parts counter can see. See if this helps. I'm pretty sure the 250 ninja really didn't change until 2008 when it got the BIG overhaul

My 2008 Ninja 250 tires to start itself

The switch is the most likely source of the problem. Check it with a volt ohmmeter. Put the key in off and check the terminals. Next turn the key to the 1st position and check the terminals then on any further positions. The next time the bike self starts is when you want to re-check the switch terminals.

You know, this has all the signs of an internal short in the switch. Just tell the dealer to give you a new switch. Switch failure after 5 hours of riding is simply unacceptable.

2002 kawasaki ninja 250 motor on ATV need wiring help

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, there would only be 3 wires needed from the handlebars that affects the engine:
  • engine RUN/OFF;
  • clutch ENGAGED;
  • engine START.
The first 2 would go to the interlock plus the neutral wire and the sidestand wire. The interlock then sends signals that starter motor can turn and that CDI can fire.

As to the ignition coil, 1 wire is IGN B+12 while the other would go to the CDI and should pulsate when cranking or engine running.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Starting my bike

Hi,

On most bikes including Kawasakis, the starter button would be on the right side of the handle bar on the throttle grip assembly. It would be right below the headlight switch. Above the headlight switch would be a switch that must be set to RUN, this is the engine kill switch.

If the above still fails to crank/start the bike, then the following would have to be checked:
  • battery and battery cables;
  • starting relay;
  • starter motor.
If the engine will crank but will not engage/run, then you need to check for:
  • spark at the plugs;
  • fuel as supplied by the carbs.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
