SOURCE: no spark 110cc engine wont start

Check the fuses. Next, check for spark but with a new spark plug. How good is the battery? If needed, add water to the battery cells enough to cover the top of the cell plates.Try a jump start from your car battery. Is the kill switch on? Check the operation of the ignition switch with a volt ohmmeter. You should be getting power into and out of the ignition switch.

If the bike doesn't start and run properly check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. Broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the switch or coupler. Get a service manual and check out the electrical section. Some bikes have a diode integrated into the turn signal relay. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it. If that doesn’t work, check out the relay.

Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center casing.

SOURCE: 1996 zx11 getting sprk to one bank only

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The voltage on the green wire must be pulsating when cranking/starting the bike, not steady. Confirm by similarly testing the voltage on the black wire on the left ignition coil. If the green still reads a constant voltage, then the CDI is faulty; to be more specific, most likely that the switching tansistor inside the CDI that drives the right ignition coil has shorted.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

  • Do you see spark? If not, check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center or side casing. If still no spark, get CDI system and coils checked at the dealers shop.

SOURCE: My 06 gsxr 750 will not start. New battery,

if the bike will not turn over you mean it doesnt crank? because if it doesnt crank over then its a starter issue and could be a simple as a blow fuse, but then why did the fuse blow? ( starter going bad)..... or it could be the starter solenoid itself, and this is where i believe you might find the fuse. response feedback appreciated.

Zxr750h1 starts and runs for 30minutes then stops try too start it again but won' t fire up. wait for engine to cool ie 2hours then it starts again, ive changed the cdi, plugs ,clean petrol & checked...

in addition to the cdi you should have a set of pickup coils that help with ignition timing, they are on the right side of the engine behind the side plate, they should ohm at 5k or so. If you check them and one or both shows infinite resistance that may be the problem.

1991 GSXR 750 cutting on low revs

run a can of Seaforam in the tank..purchase from Autozone put in 1/3 to two gallons gas drive it around for at least 10 miles to insure it cleans out the whole carb system.if that doesnt work, check all carb hose fittings when bike is at idle spray some Chemtool B-12 ( also at Autozone) around the carb hoses and manifolds..if idle increses thats your problem. Caution: chemtool is very toxic wear gloves and a mask.

1986 gsxr 400.not sparking r starting

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If somehow, the CDI could be opened up, then component level repair maybe tried. There would be 2 final transistors that actually do the switching; 1 for each coil. Offhand, it would appear that 1 of those 2 is faulty. Otherwise, replacement is the only option.

Incidentally, in some versions, a fault in the tachometer could also cause one of the CDI's output to fail.

Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Stops firing on middle 2 cylinders when it gets to running temp

The coil is probably breaking down internally when the heat rises. The only other possibility is the electronic ignition going bad. Have a dealer check the bike before spending bucks on a new coil when the old one may actually be good.

Gsxr 750 no spark how do i test cdi

I've this data from my 1986 engine!

Under the left hand side cover there are 2 2-wire connections. One with a green and a black wire, one with a blue and a yellow wire.
Use an ohmmeter at R x 100 between both wires of a connector to check the pick-up coils: resistance must be between 130 and 180 Ohms.

The values of the ignition coil resistances are:
primary coil : 3-5ohms ( set ohmmeter at R x 1 )
Secundary coil : 25.000 - 45.000 ohms ( set ohmmeter at R x 1.000 )
For a correct measurement ALL leads must be disconnected ( also the spark plug leads )

The CDI cannot be tested with a simple measurement. Suzuki dealers have a special tool to test CDI boxes.
But checking the pick-up coils and ignition coils good will indicate an defective CDI.

The wires on the CDI:
Blue: PU coil 1 ( cyl 1-4 )
Yellow: PU coil 1
Green: PU coil 2 ( cyl 2-3 )
Blue : PU coil 2
Orange/white : +12v ign coil 1-4
White : switched coil negative side ign coil 1-4
Orange/white : +12v ign coil 2-3
Blue/yellow: switched coil negative side ign coil 1-4 ( and signal to tachometer )
Blue/white : ground

Thus, you must have +12V on both Orange/white leads.
