Do you have to drop the exhaust to change the oil filter on a 2000 yamaha 1100 v-star

Yes, unless you want to spend $250 on a Baron oil filter relocation kit. http://www.motoshop.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BA264000&Category_Code=BARONS&Store_Code=AIM Or $275 on a Jardine oil filter relocation kit. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=108&manufacturer_ID=7&product_ID=6715&sblid_name=Jardine_Chrome_Oil_Filter_Relocation_Kit___ V_Star_______ If you choose to stay with the stock set up, consider keeping new exhaust gaskets handy in case you start to experience popping and backfiring caused by leaking exhaust gaskets on the head pipes.

Backfires badly when downshifting or just letting off the throttle v-star 1100

Most people have this problem after changing the exhaust system. In your case you have to unbolt the exhaust system just to change the oil filter during an oil change. There is an oil filter relocation kit available for around $400 that allows you to both use a spin on filter and not have to unbolt the exhaust system every time you change the oil. The cause of your problem is air leaking past the exhaust o-rings in the head. Buy new exhaust o-ring gaskets for the head and your problem should be solved. If there is a sealing pipe gasket going from the head pipe to the muffler you may have to replace that too. The cause of your problem was probably an oil change where the mechanic replaced the oil filter but did not bother to replace the exhaust o-ring gaskets. Happy riding.

Where does the oil come out of a 2004 Yamaha 1100 VStar Classic

Oil drain plug is located near the bottom of the engine, left side toward the front. The oil filter element is located on the right side of the engine under the cover toward the front. Changing the oil filter usually requires removal of the front exhaust pipe. There is an aftermarket filter relocation kit that replaces the filter element with a spin on filter that mounts on the front of the bike.

I have a 99 1100 v star how do i chang my filter

Look between the exhaust pipes for a bump with a bolt head, that should be your oil filter housing which you can unbolt.

First Time--changing the oil-want to make sure I do it right. Thanks,Harvey

o.k easy one this .First get good motorcycle oil 15/40 semi synthetic and a new oil filter first, never use car oil. Warm the engine up to get good oil flow. Remove the oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine, dont loose the seal washer. drain the oil into a container, and remove the oil filter as well. replace washer and oil plug do not over tighten, hard hand pressure only with quality spanner. fill oil filter with oil and oil `O`ring with oil to replace by tight hand pressure only no tools. Fill engine oil through oil filler cap to correct level between the two marks on the dip stick, bike must be up-right for best accuracy of oil level. There done.

Change oil in 2004 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic, procedure?

i think the oil filter is at the front behind a round finned cover, if you find the drain plug it should be right above it, it shoud tell you how much oil it takes right next to the filler
