How to remove smog equipment

I would like to remove all tubing, filters, tubing etc. from the California Cmodel. What can I disconnect without affecting how the motor runs? What do the vacuum tubes to the carbs do? Do I need to plug the tubing ? Are vacuum assists necessary for the carbs to work properly? Do any plugs need to be used to replace the vacuum switch on the cam cover? Any precautions do I need to follow? Thank you.

My suggestion is dont remove it it is manufactured to perform at peak performance with all hooked u will have many problems trying to disconnect the emissions if u can get it to run diconnecting the emissions will not make it faster it will more than likely perform sluggish and run slower

SOURCE: carburetor fuel flow

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, to your queries:

  • hook up all the vacuum lines - yes or cover/plug all
  • to stop fuel flow - hooking up all the vacuum lines or covering/plugging them would be technically correct but will not stop the flooding/fuel overflow;
  • run correctly - with constant overflow/flooding, it will not run correctly.
To my knowledge, overflow could only be caused by:
  • faulty valve pins, worn out rounded pyramids, necked/indentations on the surface of the rounded pyramid, cracks (rubber type);
  • worn out inlet port;
  • dirt, sand, foreign object lodged against inlet port hole;
  • mis-adjusted floats;
Which would mean, go to do it all over again.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: Fuel pouring out of overflow tube

Yes, it sounds EXACTLY like a stuck float. You may be able to fix it yourself depending on how accessable the offending carburetor is. Quite often you can free up a stuck float by setting up a bit of vibration. Give this a try > tap the side of the carb repeatedly using the plasitc end of a screwdriver. You are not looking to hammer the thing to death, just create minor shocks. The shocks / vibration will often free up a stuck float. Please rate this solution and let me know if all went well.

SOURCE: How can I tell if my Fork tubes take fork tube oil

Most forks take Automatic Transmission oil ("ATF").
Most new motorcycles don't have drain holes for it is almost impossible to remove all of the oil through such an opening.
If the forks aren't leaking and are working, don't disturb them. If they are leaking you will need to remove and service them. This should be only done by a shop or someone who knows how.

Not passing smog, no code or engine light

Its going to be tough to find the problem without access to a 4 gas machine. Especially if there are no trouble codes in the computer.
If the fuel mixture is rich it should set a code for one or both O2 sensors. Same thing if the EGR is not working, etc.
One thing that could cause problems is the thermostat not getting the engine up to normal temp.

What is snog pump

Do you mean "smog" pump?
Unless your vehicle is equipped with Califoria emmissions (or equivalent), you do not have one. If your car is equipped with California emissions, it is equipped with an electric pump that forces air into the exhaust system under certain engine operating conditions. This is actually called a "Secondary Air Injection Pump". Some people call this a "smog pump", but this is only a slang term for it.
