I have a 07 xvs 650 classic. I bought the bike used, the headlight won't come on. I checked the bulb, and fuse as well as the dimmer switch. I replaced the whole wire harness and relays and still nothing.. anybody got any ideas.... could it be the ignitor unit or the rectifier regulator?

Is the headlight itself new? You can hook up any 12 volt source to the headlight prongs and tell if the bulb itself is burned out...take it out and test it !...good luck to you....Tim

your voltage/reg. can be tested in a couple different ways check ground res. check res. then revs. bias on diodes you have ac in dc out it sounds like you may have a diode gone bad allowing ac curent to flow causing the wires to get hot

First I would change all the spark plugs, and if that didn't make a difference then it sounds like the coil(s) are warming up and breaking down........when it starts to skip take a good pair of pliers with good rubber on them and pull each spark plug wire, when you get to the one that the running doesn't change then I would replace that particular coil

G'Day mate
You can get a wiring diagram(complete workshop manual!!) for your XS from the Biker.net website. There is a excellent overview/troubleshooting guide of the troublesome charging system here to help you resolve the problem, as well as options to upgrade parts. Happy to give you advice on the electrics of this bike. I have had plenty of experience maintaining my own:)
