could be anything but if you are mechanically minded and can get to the sender(sometimes an opening/cover) under the back seats and you will find a plug on top of the fuel pump/sender assembly that goes onto the top of the fuel tank - if there are 4 wires - 2 large and 2 small the 2 small are for the sender. unplug it and link the 2 small wires and if its the sender broken your gauge on the dashboard should read full with the ignition on.

You can't. no reset for this. Logic chip in the IP is bad if the gauge reads half full. If it doesn't read, replace the sending unit in the tank.

Hi Singo the light and gauge are seperate systems that's why they are reading wrong. It's most likely the sensor in the tank of worst case an ECU fault. You will need someone to look at it for you because Renault electrical systems are very temperament and a wrong move could cause other more serious problems. Regards Jim...

How do you know it is still half full? Sure nobody stole your fuel? or never had a leak. Before saying the gauge is off, try to put in a few gallon, and see it the gauge does a reading. Then try to start again. I learned to trust my measurement tools, unless I could prove they were wrong.

It is probably a bad sender in the tank but ut would b=need to be tested to verify that.

Something is wrong fuel gauge you should have them fixed by a technician to be restored in good running condition

My scooter dose the same with the gas gauge it seem to be the reading gauge in the tank if you fill it up and ride it for about 40 miles you will see the gauge go up to full as the gas starts to go down.

Your problem is the fuel gauge sending unit. It needs to be replaced. Another benefit of owning the durable festiva is the access panel under the back seat. You don't have to drop the tank to fix this problem.

I had same problem with petrol gauge bouncing around all over the place, full tank, half a tank and nearly empty in the space of 10 miles.

I knew that if I filled the tank I would get approx 200 miles for half a tank so I did that for a while and just kept topping up. Audi testing it and the fuel sensors in the tank had to be replaced. I'm afraid its the only permanent solution!
