SOURCE: 83 yamaha tt600e no spark

The CDI unit on the 83 model (TT600) is located under the fuel tank and suffers from heat
exposure.The solution is to get specialist help to open up the sealed CDI unit and repair/
replace internal connections (which are readily available electronic components)
When you re-install it put some heat shielding material there to protect it and this
will be OK as repair will utilise stronger parts,I think.
Later models have the CDI unit moved to the head-stem area.

(this info from a Non-mechanic who remembers what was done to his TT in Australia, many years
ago)

SOURCE: yz125 no spark

G'day i am a . YZ 125 j ...lets see now! You could perform these tests yourself.Check your plug CAP,if in doubt replace it with a new one. Take the below ohm figures and see if they match up. Pulse coil: white/blue and white/red= 310 ohms. low speed coil: Green/white and Black/red= 900 ohms. high speed coil: Green/blue and black= 55 ohms. hope this has helped in some way to helping you solve your problem.If it has please leave feed back.Ride hard , see ya,Tabbycat

SOURCE: no spark, changed the coil, is there any way to

There is a way to test a CDI box but you will have to take it to a shop that has the equipment to do this. I own a motorcycle/Atv repair shop and I don't own one cause they cost allot and I can't justify getting one.

SOURCE: Have no spark. Changed coil & CDI box so far.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, suggested checks on the wires:

  • black of igniter unit tied to ground;
  • orange wire from igniter to ignition coil with pulsating voltage when starting;
  • gray wire from igniter to ignition coil with pulsating voltage when starting;
  • IGN + 12 on red/white wire to igniter and ignition coils from engine stop switch;
  • IGN + 12 on red/white wire to engine stop switch coming from 10Amp ignition fuse;
  • pulsating low voltage from pickup coil between the wires black/white, white/green & yellow/red.
Postback results of above voltage tests.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays.

2001 ktm 300 mxc not getting a spark what would cause not to get a spark

A few things,start simple disconnect the kill switch,remove the spark plug cap from the wire,check all your coneections from the stator to the cdi box to the coil.Still no spark your going to need a multi meter to check the stator and coil.If all this checks out to be good then it is your cdi box.A word of caution test these parts before replacing as they are not returnable and could get costly.A good shop could diagnose your problem in hour time.It may be money well spent if you do not understand your bikes ignition system.

Kawasaki 300 ATV has very faint to no spark until you stop trying to start, then a full second later, one big spark. Won't run. Any ideas?

Hi mate the cdi if failed you would have no spark period. I strongly recommend re checking stator when spark comes in and out or dies when hot or will only jump start these are all classic stator issues. simple test just need multimeter and read OHMS from the connecting plug of the stator... one of the pairs of wires will read sky high or zero... I don't know exact reading for your model but kwaka will tell you but a dodgy stator will generally read zero on one or more of the pairs of wires cheers mate hope it helps

How to test CDI unit for KTM65 2009 to diagnose if faulty or not.

If you are able to use a digital volt meter and work your backwards from spark plug wire to coil to cdi to stator you can figure out where voltage stops.thats a fairly newer bike unless you really submerged that bike under water i dont think its the cdi box.it could be coil wire it could be coil.you want to check or change the cheaper parts before you go right to cdi because there not cheap.I have a yamaha banshee 350 and she was breaking up real bad.I thought because it was only happining on top end that the cdi was breaking down or stator was going bad.Found out with meter it was the coil wires and spark plug boots.These items have to have a certain amount of resistance or the do not conduct correctly.And spark plug wires and boots are not that exspensive.So thats why I say start from sparkplug boot and work your way back.Try that and Good Luck.

I have a chance to pik up a 88 yz 125 for a hell of a price and the guy says it wont start. No spark. electrical problem. says its the stator. I dont know that. So im asking, what exactly I can do to find...

hello, usually you have 3 things for firing problems, stator and stator pickup coil, or ign coil, or cdi, i have a 2000 warrior 350, i just went through all that, you can buy after market cdi from procom engineering inc. i purchased one for my warrior 76.00 , it advances timing, hotter spark etc.most of the time it is the stator, pick up coil, both are hooked up together in the stator case, left side of motor,warrior cdi usually goes bad, havent heard of cdi on 88 model, may need to check with dealer.

I have a 2001 yz80. The spark seems weak. I tested the coil and its fine. I tried it with the kill button disconected, it didnt help.How do I test the stator and cdi? Am I on the right track?

yes buddy the only way to test the cdi is too put on another bike and if it was the stator it wouldnt spark and yes you are on the right tracks but maybe it could be the plug does it run brilliantly

Hi i have an 05 crf150f it wil not get spark at all i have replaced my coil,wiring harness but my stator is getting spark. i think it might be the rev box (cdi)please help me i am tired of fixing it over...

well the stator doesn't give spark it give voltage and if you test it and the is voltage and you have replaced all that stuff with good ones then it is your cdi box.

to test the stator for voltage take a multimeter on the ac scale and test the output of the stator while kicking the bike over if you have voltage rising and falling then your stator is fine. if not you will need to test the pick coil in the stator area for a ground pulse this is what the cdi box uses as a reference for the position of crank shaft and piston. just like a crank sensor in a car. if there is ground pulse there when you back probe the wires coming out of the pick up then your cdi is for sure the issue. if you have any more question please ask. good luck
