2001 Honda VT 1100 C2 Shadow Sabre Running Lean

Have cobra pipes on bike. I do not know if the carb was rejetted for these but am guessing I am running lean due to blueing on the pipes and always needing choke to start bike. About 3 years ago bike ran rough and high idle circuit in carbs seemed clogged "bike bogged down with more than 1/2 throttle". I ran seafoam through the tank and seemed to fix. Fast forward to now.... Bike always needs choke to start and fuel economy is horrible. I seem to get about 32mpg if I'm lucky. I'm a little fast on throttle but I shouldn't lose that much MPG. Bike also seems kinda quiet for having Cobra pipes. I just replaced the spark plugs with copper core and gapped them correctly and am wondering if a new air filter would help. I am looking at the K & N air filter or if I need to have my carbs rejetted or cleaned. Thanks for the help.

I have a 2007 Honda Shadow Sabre VT1100 and I also put after market pipes on it from Vance and Hines. I also have to keep it choked when first starting and sometimes even hold the throttle a bit while it warms up. The bike has two carburetors and the best solution I have found by lots of asking around of mechanics and bike folk is to get it rejetted through Dyno Jet. It is meant for bikes with after market exhausts and much less back pressure from the lack of those stiffling baffles in the stock pipes. I have also noticed the power loss in the middle torque range and backfiring because of the bike running in a lean condition. The Dyno Jet website is a good place to find the correct set and corresponding part number, but then I suggest finding a cheap place online so you avoid retail price :) Hope this helps. Oh, and don't forget to buy two kits...we have two carburators in our bikes.

SOURCE: how to change sparkplugs on honda shadow motorcycle

VT1100 has two spark plugs per cylinder, the sparkplug caps are snap-ons so they're fairly easy to remove. You need a spark plug socket wrench to remove and replace the spark plugs.

1999 honda vt1100 running lean

First try to sync the carbs (link 1), if you can not balance them, then you have to rejet the slow and main jet. Do not drive the bike without sync the carbs, overheating can destroy cylinder, rings, cam chain etc.

My 1100 shadow has a pop like a backfire at idle or decelerating , the exhaust has been replaced with longshot pipes and the carbs have been rejeted.

I would check spark plugs first then if that does not solve the problem. ( GAP AND SPARK) Then lean the carb out. If you recently moved from a lower or higher altitude place then you will need to have the carbs set right for the place that you are going to be riding. The backfiring is an ignition that happens after the combustion in the motor. The gap in the spark plug could be too small or not existent causing this or its the mixture of fuel/air. This would be my first step for solving this problem. After you try this let me know how it runs...

My 05 shadow sabre starts, runs & idles fine except at high rpm (half to full throttle) air filter & plugs look ok. Has dg pipes and supposedly was rejetted. Just bought the bike & do not know...

i think you are on the right track, i would try draining and refilling tank with fresh gas,if it doesn't help, then likely the main jet has become partially clogged from improper storage or may just be, have you tried running on partial choke to see if it helps, this will comfirm a high speed lean mixture, you could try running a good fuel system cleaner b4 tearing carb apart, i like using a product called seafoam, cleans carb and carbon from engines. 1oz. pergallon. just be happy you only have one carb to mess with my vmax has four, yikes!!!!!!!!!good luc, feel free to e-mail me

Vt1100c2 backfires through pipes on deceleration - hesitates on accelerating. It runs fine at highway speeds. Seems to throttle down slow.

Could be running too lean, check the color of your plugs to know for sure, black and dry is rich white and blistered is lean.,
