Ridding my 94 FXR Harley and all of a sudden it stopped running, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Everything was going normal untill it died and when it died it started to sputter as if it were running out of gas (I had just filled up less then 30 miles earlier). Once of the side of the road it would not start, it was completly dead and woul not even give me a metalic click noise as if it low battery. The battery was completly dead and wouildnt even run my headlights.... Whats wrong?

The first thing I'd suspect is the battery. I've seen batteries break battery posts, suffer from internal shorts, and all sorts of problems. You FXR, as well as the Softail bikes, is very tough on batteries. This is due to the fact that the battery is in such close proximity of the hot oil tank subjecting the battery to higher temperatures than other model bikes. Vibration is a contributing factor in the Evolution and earlier bikes as well even if they do have rubber mounted engines. I'd take the battery out and take it to an automotive parts store and ask them if they can "load test" it for you. If the battery test good, you need to check to see if the main circuit breaker is tripping indicating a short circuit somewhere.

Good Luck

Bike leaves me stranded after 15 mins

Check your ignition coils. Sometimes they fail with an open circuit, this can sometimes close up when the machine is cold and open again when it heats up. So. it will start when cold and fail when it warms up.

Hello, I have a 94 Harley FXR. I went for a bike ride today and as I was riding I noticed a noise that would come and go coming from the front end. When I got home the engine died on me and now it wont...

Check for battery voltage going to the primary side of the coil when you have the switch turned on. If you don't have any voltage, you won't have any spark either. You may have to disconnect the small wires to check for the voltage.

You can test the coil using an ohm meter. Disconnect the small wires and put your meter's function switch in R X 1 position. Touch the meter leads to each of the primary coil winding posts. You should read between 2-3 ohms.

As for the noise from the front end, I don't have any idea. You may want to pull the headlamp and look inside the there. I think the FXR is like a Sportster in the fact that most of the wiring is in the headlight assembly.

Good Luck
