2005 Suzuki Boulevard C90T Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 21, 2011

I have a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard C90T with abouit 19000 miles. About 6 weeks ago, it began intermittently not starting. It didn't happen often and when it did, I usually just waited about 5-10 mins and it would start. Until one time it didn't (resulting in a tow to my shop). My mechanic is swamped and so was booked for work four weeks out. So to get my bike back to me quicker than 1 month, he admittedly didn't diagnose rather he just took apart all of the connections to things like the kill switch and the kickstand switch and cleaned them and put them back together. She started beautifully for the past month until today. I went for a short ride (30 miles or so). Within 1 mile of starting, the F1 and oil lights flashed on and the speedometer started jumping all over. As soon as I tapped the brakes that stopped. About another mile later, stopped for gas and then it wouldn't start (like it acted several weeks ago). However, within about a minute it started up. About a mile after that the lights/speedo thing happened again, stopping when I tapped brakes. From then on she ran just fine for the next 25 miles or so. I didn't shut it off at all during the ride after getting gas and when I got home, I shut it off and then tried to start it about 10 mins later and she fired right up. I'm hoping to take a trip next week and don't want to be stranded. I also don't want to wait for weeks for my mechanic to fit me in. Help!

I need more details than "it sounds like a bad ground"

  • Anonymous Aug 22, 2011

Could you give me a ballpark of where I should start?

  • Anonymous Aug 22, 2011

can you give me just a bit more direction as to where I should start checking? starter relay? clutch or neutral safety switches? a little more direction and then I'm happy to accept this answer. Thanks.

Look at two things. One, is to remove the battery and take it to one of your local auto parts stores and have it checked for CCA's. See if they will do a amp draw with a heater type meter. This type checks the battery with a simulated load. Next check your starter/main relay. It will be under the seat close to the battery. Follow the main positive (red) cable out from the battery to a junction box. This box will contain your starter / main relay. Once you have checked your battery and if it fails that would be your problem if it passes that test. Check this relay next time you have a problem. Learn where it is and how to access it during your next no-start. Once your bike has decided not to start, get to this relay and see if it is working. You can jump it if you think for some reason it is not working. Jump across the two larger cables. Try this and repost with any results. Hope this helps FixYa up.

I think your mechanic checked all that for you already. If he had his hands on your bike, and he cleaned connections, checked plugs and all. If there was a problem he would have found it going through your bike the way you described he did. Now I think your problem is with your battery or the main relay. This is where I would start if this problem where mine. Check the battery, check the main relay once the problem shows it's self again. Get a 12v test light, learn which wire should be hot when you press the start button. (check the relay for voltage coming from the start button). I am hunting up a diagram to further help you.

you probably have a bad ground connection somewhere, and will just have to start checking all the wiring

Battery is dead or no capacity. Check charge. A battery can read correct voltage but have no capacity. battery should be 13.8 volts fully charged approximately.

Did this just happen after storage or was it working fine then had the problem>? Needs more details and history to diagnose. How old is the battery??.

You'll need to remove bolt (part #11), and probably come up with something to hold (part #14) from spinning while you do.

Decomp. valve adjusted last year plus new battery. Posts all over the net regarding this problem. Very unreliable starting system. Frustrated beyond belief. No solid answers. Tired of throwing cash at it. Anyone having the same problem and knows the fix please post the answer. Thank you.
