1999 Yamaha XVS 1100 Dragstar Questions & Answers
87virago1100cc wont kick over seems like a relay
Do any lights come on when the key is turned? Are you you sure there is power from the battery? If yes then what happens when the start button is pressed? Do the lights dim at all? Even without a click noise if the button is supplying power to the solinoid the oil check/dummy lights should dim slightly. If no dimming but the lights are on when the key is turned, start by checking the starter button, if there is no power there trace your way back to the battery with a voltmeter until you find where the power stops.
I have a yamaha xvs
I have a similar problem, and a friend who has the same model as me says the dragstars are notorious for battery wear, especially standard batteries, he also suggested I tried a motobatt battery as they have 20% more power on ignition than a standard type, if that doesn't cure it then look towards the solenoid, that is what I plan on doing, if I find the root cause I will let you know and if you do, you will have to tell me, good luck to both of us.
