not a car so moved to MC buy the manual from Harley if doing DIY, buy it google it or ask them.

I went to a more trouble than I usually do to answer this because it is a frequent question. In general, a halfway decent HD service department will plug in their Scanalyzer, tell you what the trouble code is and what it means and reset the ECM at no charge. If they want to charge you for doing this, then find another dealer. My daughter is a board certified physician and she makes less than half of what these blood suckers charge per hour. Make sure the ignition is off. Locate the Data Link plug. Identify pins 1 & 2. Use a female spade connector to short out pins 1 & 2. Turn the ignition switch to on. Engine check light comes on for 8 seconds. After that, the check light will count off the trouble code. If you have resolved the problem associated with the trouble code, then the solid check engine light after ignition on will shut off after 50 - 100 starts, depending upon the model year of the ECM installed on your bike. Good luck.

Can you tell what color the oil is? Clear color would be inner primary seal leak, red color is tranny seal leak, dark color is engine oil leak, possibly.

What codes do you have. Start up again after it cooled???

Look for a parasitic draw. There are plenty of videos on youtube for the method (usually on cars but the principal is the same). You will need a digital multimeter and some patience but you should be able to narrow it down to one circuit and go from there. HTH.

He left off the auxiliary wire that runs to the radio, look around, it's close by the battery terminal somewhere, I tell you this on the promise you never play "Free Bird" on it.

First step would be to diconnect the battery negitive wire. Next would be to drain your clutch case oil as it will need to be removed to remove the bolt that is attached to the starter gear inside. you can now disconnect the wires that are attached to the starter and remove the 2 bolts that hold the starter to the housing. Be carefull as you tip the starter up and out noting the worm gear and spacer, this will need to be used on the new replacment starter if the starter you purchase does not have it included. Simply reverse the order to re-install new starter. It may be a good thing to replace the housing gasket to prevent an oil leak once you are all finished. The above is a snap shot explaination on how to acheive, replacing the starter but if you have a good understanding of how things work, it will give you the main steps to follow. You could also google for a video that can show you by sight how to do this proceedure also. Hope that gives you what you were looking for. Happy wrenching.

Carb or Injected?

Use your 20W50 for crank. Use 80/90 Gear oil for tranny and something like 15w40 or 10w30 for the primary.

First thing that comes to mind, is the brake light staying on? Sometimes the front brake light switch gums up and doesn't release, so the light stays on. The cruise control kicks off when the brake light comes on.

this sounds like the carby air screw is not right or the idle jet is blocked ,the best way to go is take the bike to a dealer with a dyno and they will set this up great.you will find the bike will run like a new one cheers pete
