2005 Beta Eikon 150 Questions & Answers
Runing lean
the left three exhaust pipes are bluing at the head and about four inches down the pipes. I have pulled the plugs and those three are white and the other is tan! The guy I bought the bike from said he cleaned the carbs I am wondering if there is a simple adjustment I can make to richen up those three carbs to stop the bluing? Thanks in advance for any help!! By the way those carbs are Hitachi carbs From my experience clean is a relative term, and in this case we have no way of determining how good a job he did without opening the carbs back up. There may still be some blockage there. This is almost guaranteed if the bike sat for a long period of time.
You may be able to help it a little by backing out the pilot screws a bit, but maybe not. I have no experience with Hitachis, but likely the pilots will have a cap or plug covering the screws. You'll need to carefully remove these plugs or caps to gain access.,,,
Tuning curbs
so I think I could guess my way through it mechanicly but how do I know where to stop. My eikon 150 running rich currently (black dirty spark plugs) and I would like to lean it out properly but I'd much rather have a too rich bike fouling spark plugs than a too lean bike fouling engines. So how do I adjust it properly and how do I know when it's right? Hey Kit. Are the plugs oily, or are you getting white smoke out the pipes? Well, you may already know these symptoms might indicate another issue besides fuel mix.
\Anyway, rich mixes don't make much power. You'll be surprised how quick your bike is when you get the mix leaned out a bit.
First of all, I'd make sure the float levels are set correctly and that the float valves are indeed seating. If they don't close off the fuel flow tightly you'll get raw fuel dumping into the carb bores... not good. Also make sure the air filter is clean and there is absolutely no obstruction to air flow. If there are problems with either of these, nothing else you do will matter much.
BTW,you'll know you're there when you get a tan or light brown color on your plugs.,,,
Grips
u can take the current ones off by simply heating them to warm the cement then pull...if that doesnt work u could use a razor blade but bake sure that u dont cut anything.
you could put the wire around the grip if u want its all up to u.
