When I crank my 2009 Toyota Matrix the maintenance required light blinks a few time and then goes out. It is not time for a oil change yet.

It could be an ignition switch failing, but most likely it is the start relay http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/Starter+Relay/01833/C0330.oap?make=Toyota&model=Corolla&year=2005&vi=1433059 it is located normally under your fuse box.

I am sorry the above was a mistake - trying to answer another problem and your problem popped up.

Anytime the check engine light comes on (same with maintenance required) your computer is alerting you that it detected an error and that the error code is stored in the computer. Just take it to an autoparts store and have them read the error codes for you and that will give you a place to start.

maintenance lights often mean nothing except that a certain period of time or mileage has passed. Whoever changed the oil probably didnt reset the maintenance counter.

No problem, you will be fine to drive it until you can get to the shop as long as the engine seems to be running OK and it is not overheating or the "oil" light is not on. Something as simple as a loose gas cap can turn on the maintenance light, chances are though, on this car it was common for a failing VVT-i cam sprocket to get stuck and cause misfire codes. The fix involves replacing the cam sprocket, something Toyota used to cover under warranty, but not likely anymore.

Maint required light just came on .....2008 toyota camry....is this a bad sign or a minimal problem

The maintenance required light lets you know its time for an oil change. Once the oil is changed the light can be reset. The light will usually blink for a few seconds as you approach the 5,000 mile mark and then stay on steady as the 5,000 mile mark is reached or surpassed.

Maintenance required light blinks every time i turn on my toyota corolla 2005 and i had oil changed at toyota service station?

Hi, it is possible it may require other schedualed services and you are being reminded. However to reset for the oil change you need to have the key off. press and hold down the milage trip reset button and turn the key on. After five seconds the odometer reads "0000000" and the light goes off. If this does not reset then let me know. There is a longer procedure for reseting the other maint services required.

How do i reset the maintenance required light after an oil change on my 2009 Toyota Tacoma?

1. Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position
with the odometer reading shown.
(For details, see “Odometer and two
trip meters” on page 145 in this Section.)
2. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position
while holding down the trip meter
reset knob.
Hold down the knob for at least 5
seconds. The odometer indicates “000000”
and the light goes off.
If the system fails to reset, the light will
continue flashing.

To reset the Maintenance Lamp turn the car key to ON (not start), set your odometer on mileage (not trip a or b), then depress and hold the button that switches from odo and trip then turn key off. Turn the key back to ON, while you are holding the button down you will notice the maintenance light blink and go out. Reset is complete and you are done.

These are available in your owners manual for the vehicle.

Toyota Matrix Check engine light is on

Is it a check engine light or Maintenance Required light? If its the maintenance required light, turn the car off, push and hold the trip odometer button while turning the ignition back on. Don't start the car. You'll see five dashes that will count down to none. That'll reset the maintenance required light. Do it after every oil change and it'll come on when its time for an oil change.
