I have a 04 dodge ram 1500 im trying to find out whats wrong with the oil pressure is aways low but the check gages does not come on

Hook up a manual oil pressure gage and verify the oil pressure.

have the oil pressure checked with an independent gage as sometimes gages in the dash don`t show correct pressure. how long has it been since the oil was changed as oil when it gets dirty it thins out and can affect oil pressure. if you don`t hear any ticking with the motor running chances are the pressure is either good or just a little low. testing oil pressure with an independent gage will tell the tale.

If you paid someone to rebuild the engine, you need to go back for warranty work. If you did the work, you need to put on mechanical gauge, and find out if the pressures is low or if your sending unit is not accurate.

check the pressure with a known to be good gauge you may have a bad gauge. if you have alot of miles on it you may try heavier oil and or additives

Check your brake master cylinder,fluid may be low, setting sensor off.

Usually on idle (warm engine) this is OK.

You either have good oil pressure and a bad oil pressure sending unit, or your oil pressure really is low. Get it checked out, so you don'y destroy the engine.

what exactly do you mean bottomed out? the oil pressure switch is also connected to a sending unit, if one fails the other might also causing the light to come on, i suggest replaceing the switch asap!

More then likely defective oil pump lost oil pressure, which in return damage your piston rod bearing. Overhaul or replace engine.Sorry.

Check your oil level. If low, it will do that...Also check wire on sending unit to make sure it's secure. I doubt if it's the sender itself but could be a loose or shorting wire. Good luck with your DODGE!!!
