I own a 2002 Kia Rio RXV and my husband decided to change my spark plugs. When he pulled them out of the engine, they were all covered in oil. What would cause this and is it worth fixing?

If the tips is full of oil its bad news the head needs to be removed, but some models of cars have like a sunk in sparkplug that goes deep in to a hole where the tappet cover is located so make sure its on the tip if not it can just be the tappet cover leaking oil onto plugs.hope this helps

SPARK PLUGS WITH OIL ON THEM COULD BE WORN PISTON RINGS, WORN VALVE GUIDES AND WORN VALVE SEALS. DO A COMPRESSION TEST.IF COMPRESSION OKAY I WOULD REPLACE VALVE SEALS REPLACED AND HAVE THE WHOLE CYLINDER HEAD RECONDITIONED IF CYLINDER BLOCK PISTONS ALL OKAY.IF ENGINE IS SMOKING A LOT OF BLUE SMOKE OR YOU HAVE TO KEEP ADDING A LOT OF OIL, WHOLE ENGINE NEED REPLACING OR REBUILD.

You have a 4 cylinder and there are seals in the cover around the spark plug holes. You can replace these with a rocker arm cover gasket set. Costs about $25.00. The oil does not hurt the sparkplug, but over time it will affect the plug wires/ boots and cause a misfire. these are not hard to replace. Your call.

Change spark plug for 2002 kia rio

The spark plugs go straight down through the center of the cam/valve cover. You must remove the plastic cover going down the center to get to the wires and plugs.

With that said, I do not recommend that you attempt to replace your plugs unless you have a source of compressed air. The removal procedure includes "cracking the plugs loose and turning approximately 3/4 turn. Then place a blow-gun with a long tube down inside the spark plug tube and blow out any debris that is in the tube before revoving the plugs the rest of the way. Failure to follow this procedure can cause debris to enter the combustion chamber when the plugs are removed and can cause serious engine damage.

Changed spark plugs and vacuumed up old oil on engine block. Now the engine is siezed up. Is there anything I could do other than get a new engine or car?

Remove the spark plugs and see if the engine will crank over. Be prepared to have oil spray or fuel spray. Cover with a towel to reduce the mess. Let me know how that goes and then we can move forward.

My Kia Rio Cinco has a problem with rain

The moisture baffles me,but the no power tells me its a bad catalyst, fuel pump,or bad fuel filter,You can have all these checked,at an auto parts store, and get recomedations.I dont see how moisture has anything to do with these though...unless there is water getting in the air intake somewhere.

Check engine light 2002 kia rio rxv

common problem with the 4.2L is o2 sensors, depending on the code. you need a obd11 scan tool and it will tell you which bank is faulty. your vehicle has 3 o2 sensors.

2002 kia rio rxv..check engine light came on..

This could be an O2 sensor or sometimes with lower grade gasoline I have seen different cars act this way. If the O2 is not bad try mid to super gas or fuel system treatment/cleaner to see if there is a change. I know in my area there is mostly 10% ethanol which will lower octane. I hope this helps!
