I have a 1999 Olds Intrigue GL 3.5L, and my service engine light came on recently so I decided to go to AutoZone to do a quick reading to find out what the problem is. I was told that it is a malfunctioning crankshaft positioning sensor. I noticed after my car is riding for a while, it jerks when it goes from one shift to the next. This didn't start happening until that light started coming on. So I guess my question is would the crankshaft position sensor make the car **** hard like that, or is it possibly something else? I'm going to eventually get it put on a diagnostics machine soon, but I wanted to get a little feedback beforehand.

This car has on board diagnostic capabilities which is what AllDATA recommends doing first.
The whinning noise from my experance is caused from the filter starting to get pluged in trans. restriction the flow of trans. fluid, its more noticeable when its colder out and oil is thicker. might be a good time to service trans if you havent done it yet. I'am like you i don't know of any torque converter sensor, but if it showed up it must have one, or its something else that kicked that code out, or he read it wrong. I wouldent wory about it, its lasted this long chanses are it will last the life of the car. Did autozone erase the code? If they did When it comes on again have it scaned again and see if it shows the same code, its posible, that code could have been stored in the computer from another time the chk.engine light came on and you did not see it. It only has to come on for a split secound to store a code.
to reset the check engine light it has to be took and hooked up to a computer to have it reset take it to autozone and they can reset it in about 5 minutes
