Hi, I can help

You have a bad wheel bearing assembly.
The bearing is starting to seize up, and it is telling computer there is a problem in ABS system, as well as AWD system.

First thing is to locate which bearing it is in the front end of the vehicle.

1)Jack up each side of the front end, place a safety support stand or jack stand under frame of vehicle.
2)Once vehicle wheel is free from ground spin the wheel and listen for grinding.
3)Compare each wheel as you spin and make your best judgment on which is more noisy.
4)This is your problem wheel you need to remember which side of the vehicle is the source of problem when ordering the part from your local auto parts store.

To repair: Remove wheel, remove brake caliper, then brake caliper bracket, then the rotor, remove center axle nut, then remove bolts for wheel bearing hub assembly.
Your ABS and AWD lights will reset themselves upon successful test drive following repair.
Let me know if you need more assistance or pictures.
Good Luck, have a great day.

I have the same issues but the noise is so loud it sounds like something is dragging under the Aztek. It gets worse when you accelerate.

How do i get info on any recalls on my 2004 pont aztec & how do i get in contact with somebody about anti-lock & awd problems

Hi! Matt, Most likely if the anti-lock brake light and the awd disable light come on at the same time a wheel bearing / wheel speed sensor assembly is faulty.Listen for a humming noise when driving and try to determine where it is coming from(left/right/front/ back) or any looseness/play in any wheel. That's the possible bearing/wheel speed sensor causing the problem. Or have the abs system scanned to determine which wheel sensor is reading incorrectly. If the awd disable light is off then the awd system should be funtioning.

AWD Disable light came on as well as Anti-lock brake light

the lights going on might also be a warning light for low brakes. if less than 25% remaining the other possibility is sensor issues with anti lock and awd

Rhythmic grinding noise front end - 98 chevy astro AWD

Could be low on oil, trans doesnt have fluid, wheel bearings are gone, or could be something stuck under the vehicle and either the tires or the drive axle is rubbing against it.

I have a 2004 Pontiac Aztek. The AWD Disable and Anti Lock lights are on and it doesn't want to accelerate? Anyone know or have had this problem?

The AWD Disable and Anti Lock lights can result from a bad wheel bearing as well as a bad speed sensor. They'll also come on if you have the spare tire on. Not sure if the acceleration problem is linked to the warning lights. Most car part stores have scanners they can check out the problem.

My 1998 awd astro van developed a grinding noise

Assuming...you get the noise with the vehicle moving; try loading up one side at a time by doing lane changes when you hear the grind. If the noise increases & then decreases as you go from side to side then you probably have a bad wheel bearing. Also, You could just have a pebble caught between the backing plate & rotor! (they have a tendency to fall out quickly)

2002 Pontiac Aztek - AWD disable light and Anti Lock Light

AWD disabled from a sensor unit in rear differential that senses high temp. This thing is over $300. Whine is from fluid. Need to change fluid. This versatrack fluid is about $40 per bottle and you need 3 bottles. Thumping noise is from loose rear knuckle bushings. These are part of the entire rear knuckle assy. and you must replace complete knuckle.
