Coolant sensor replacement - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Not low input sensor...P0117 KIA - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input

Possible causes
Low engine coolant level
Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
Faulty engine coolant thermostat
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Just replace coolant temperature sending unit....

It can be faulty coolant temperature sensor.Its not sensing exact coolant heat temperature so its overheating then required level.

Get the coolant pressure tested, its definitely leaking coolant. You will need to get the coolant running line.

Pressure test will help you to know from where exactly coolant/refrigerant is getting leaked.

Hello: You didn't post what year/model car. If its 1996 or newer the coolant level sensor is located in the overflow tank. Sometimes you can tap on the tank near the sensor and it will work. Make sure the sensor is connected, not easy to get access to it. To replace the sensor you will have to replace the tank.

LOW LEVEL COOLANT SENSOR BAD OR EITHER WIRE CONNECTOR TO SENSOR IS LOOSE OR HAS A SHORT IN IT.

Replace the coolant sensor,and make sure there is enough coolant in the system,and the mass air flow is most likely bad,but replace the coolant sensor first,cause the circuit is the same,sort of,it has to be in check for the reading of the mass air flow can be detected,so replace it first,it is the cheapest also,after changing the coolant sensor,you may not need to replace mass airflow sensor,but the mass air flow is not working,but like I said the coolant sensor needs to be replaced to make sure of this.

Ensure you are checking the right sensor.
The coolant level sensor is usually located in the coolant resevoir. It generally performs a hi/lo monitor switch function.
The coolant temperature sensor is usually located on the motor (cylinder head or thereabouts). It is a variable resistor dependant on coolant temperature.
As a quick check to identify the sensor, with engine running, short the sensor to ground. If it's the temp gauge sensor the gauge will go max high. Open circuit connection = temp low.

Coolant sensor wiring would be the next place to look. Make sure connector is good, and look for broken wires.

The coolant level sensor is located on the radiator. If you are looking at the engine from the front of the car it will be on the left side. There will some kind of clip holding it in the radiator. Removed the clip and pull the sensor out. You will lose coolant so try to swap it out quick or drain some of the coolant out. Once new sensor is installed, install clip to keep the sensor in place and reconnect the wires to the sensor. Crank the engine and make sure the coolant level is full. This should correct your problem.
