Use a 12 Volt test light and determine which wire from your headlight switch is hot when the lights are turned on and which wire goes to your instrument panel lights. When you are probing for the panel lights you can operate the dimmer to make sure the test light dims and you have the correct wire.
If you locate and hook into these two wires your gauges will operate as you desire.

Have a mercury tracer was on highway when temperature gauge goes from normal to past cold it then looses power and dies and will not start back what causes this

Will the vehicle turn over and not start or is there no power? Do the headlights come on? If the headlights don't come on or come on and are very dim, suspect a charging system problem. Try starting the vehicle with a boost. If it starts, have the charging system/battery tested

I have a 2002 Neon (MTX), My speedo died, I troubleshooted all the way down to the ******, replaced the speedo drive gear and a bearing. Filled ****** with fluid, started car after all engine components...

Try a bigger battery or a battery charger.swap it to give enough power to start the engine. If that doesnt work than try checking the starter solenoid at your local auto store

Problems starting turnig but not turning over

this may help diagnose your problem. with headlights on,try to start truck.do headlights dim? if so,check battery for bad.try boosting your truck from another car. check battery terminals for clean and tight. this is a must!!! if battery is good,,,,lights ,,headlights on and turning the keyswitch to start and no dim in the headlights when you turn the switch to start, bad connection to battery,or bad starter,or blown fuseable link in wiring to the starter, check for blown fuses to main,starter,e.c.m. under the hood in main fuse box. also check for a bad fuel pump relay in the main fuse box under the hood.

My gauge lights are not coming on when I turn on my headlights. How do I replace the bulb that lights up speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge and tach?

It is probably not a bulb if none of the dash lights are not working. There is more than one bulb. It is probably the the headlight switch or the roller switch that dims the lights.

Security lights flash and car wont crank

First make sure your battery is fully charged, you can atleast try and jump start it. After that check all fuses.

The dash lights and display controls on dash all go out. The next day everythings OK....Could it be a simple fuse ?

This happened to ours... SOmetimes they would flash on and off sometimes go out for long periods of time. The fuel gauge used to also read as empty... I talk with a guy at a jeep salvage and he said that if you have auto-on/ off/ dimming feature it could be that the eye is bad and to not use the feature. We knew our eye was bad and had not been using it so he recommended replacing the headlight switch... we bought a new switch for like $25 and it fixed our problem...

Headlights

The only thing that all of your problems have in common is the light switch and the dash wiring harness. The stereo is linked to the light switch because of it's illumination feature' You need to test the light switch with a test light by probing the wires at it's plug.
