Im trying to replace the lower radiator hose and i was wonder if when it goes to the thermostat housing if it goes to the top or bottom opening the car is a 2000 ford taurus with a 24 valve dohc 3.0 L duratec

The top picture is thermostat housing. It appears to be toward front of engine, lower, driver side. Usually, one of the radiator hoses goes to thermostat housing.

top hose should be hot, all water from engine goes through upper hose, then radiator to cool and out lower hose.

On most vehicles top radiator hose goes to thermostat. God-Bless!

the thermostat housing is at the lower radiato hose that clamps onto the thermostat housing. With engine cool, drain fluid from radiator. The lower house is held on with a clamp. Un tighten hose clamp and remove hose.Unbolt thermostat housing and remove. Remove thermostat Clean housing and thermostat seat. Insatll new thermostat and gasket, with gasket sealer, and tighten thermostat housing.Reinstall hose and tighten clamp. Refill radiator with anti freez coolant.Start engine and let warm up to normal Check the heater temp. If heat is good, shut off engine and let cool down. Re check coolant level and fill if needed.Also when running, check for any leaks at hose and thermostat housing. If all checks good, YOUR DONE.

Yes the top one goes to the thermostat. How did you manage to do something so silly?

thermostat goes on top of the thermostat housing where the lower radiator hose goes from rad to t-stat housing.

Your thermostat is located under a metal housing on the top of the engine. The upper radiator hose connects to this housing. To change the thermostat you basically need to drain the radiator after your engine is cold, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine, and remove the bolts from the small housing. replace the thermostat, and clean the surfaces on both sides and replace the gasket too. reinstall the housing, attach the hose, and refill the radiator. start the engine, warm it up and check for leaks, then re check the coolant level after the engine cools off again.

Hello, if im not mistaken you will have to remove the battery and the tray it sits on, or at least i founded easier that way. Follow the upper hose to where it meets the engine, thats your Thermostat housing, remove the 2 bolts, remove the housing and there you have it. Also a good idea to get new gasket for the housing and thermostat. hope this is helpful

4.2L Engine the thermostat and the neck where the hose goes on is one unit $25 at autozone

1. Remove the necessary coolant from the radiator.
2. Remove the alternator, Loosen the outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing. Remove the outlet hose from the thermostat housing.
3. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
4. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
5. Clean all of the surfaces of the thermostat housing.
6. Clean the sealing surface of the engine block.

The thermostat on the 2002 Mazda 626 2.5 liter V6 is located at the opposite end of the lower radiator hose (near the block). It is nestled between the air-cleaner assembly and the intake manifold (on the driver side). You have to first remove the air-cleaner housing (The top half has several things attached to it; you don't have to completely remove the top half - just sort of move it aside after it hans been unencumbered; the bottom half must be completely removed as this is the area you will be working in.) The thermostat housings' top half can then be ubolted from the bottom half but you can not remove it or pull it aside to gain access to the actual thermostat until you unbolt the ignition coil pack. Mazda uses a strange metal sleeve to protect the lower radiator hose (I assume that's what it's for). There are three bolts holding the pack on (if I remember correctly, two of them hold the sleeve in place as well). After you free the sleeve you can then move the thermostat housings' top half aside and pull the thermostat out. Good luck putting it all back together - it's sort of like a jigsaw puzzle. BTW this is by far the hardest thermo I've ever had to replace.
