1999 cavalier- has two codes. firstly has p0141 o2 sensor heater circuit malfunction bank1, sensor 2. also has p0300 random cylinder misfire. vehical is missing at idle and driving and has a hard time accelerating and sometimes shuts off. the plugs were replaed 4-5 months ago and have about 4000 miles on them. the rear o2 sensor was replaced about 4 years ago. vehical mis getting spark on all cylinders. is it possible for the rear o2 to be bad already again and cause a random misfire...? also looked at plugs and they look ok.

1- check there is spark come from spark wires
2- check the fire timing by looking for every wire in the right place

4- check for any vacuom leak
5- try to clean the MAF by brake and parts cleaner

SOURCE: need to know what bank1 sensor 1 is-ie. Which O2

The Simplest way to describe this, is to tell you BANK 1 is in the ROW OF CYLINDERS on the DRIVER SIDE and Sensor 1 is the FIRST 02 / Oxygen sensor after the EXHAUST MANIFOLD of the DRIVER SIDE.
Heater Circuit Malfunction as Long as you are Speaking of the SAME SYSTEM, it is Simply the HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR at this Location. I am Positive of this Answer as I Researched it from a Most reliable Source, AND from MY own Knowlage Because Chevrolet is My Favorite from the Start of My Career

ENGINE LIGHT ON CODES P0141 & P0144

code p 0141 refers to heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 2 bank 1--heater control--circuit malfunction===causes --wiring---HO2S--- ECM
code p 0144 refers to heated oxygen sensor(HO2S) 3 bank 1--high voltage ===causes wiring short to positive ---HO2S---ECM
also refers to oxygen sensor(O2S) 3 bank 1--high voltage ===causes wiring short to positive---O2S-- ECM
HO2S sensors are the units in the exhaust manifolds or before the cat converters
O2 sensors are after the cat converter
two completely different operations
use the special tool for sensors as the wires are easily damaged from the wrong tool use
as for misfiring you will get a P0300 (0300,0301,0302,0303 etc) depending on which cylinders are misfiring
when checking for misfiring the injectors , (blocked or not firing) are as important as plugs and wires
If the misfiring continues after sensor replacement , replace the ECM with a known good one as it is common to all fault codes and misfiring

Replaced:plugs, wiresdistributor, fuel pump.truck wouldn't start before but now it starts but i am getting po135,po141,po147.po300 codes

P0135 means 0xygen heater circuit malfunction, P0141 mean 02 heater circuit bank1 sensor 2 (this is catalytic monitor) P0147 means 02 heater sensor circuit bank 1 sensor 3, P0300 is random misfire. You will get all the 02 code because of the misfire correct the misfire and the 02 should correct. We will start with the plug wire and make sure the firing order is correct 1996 chevy blazer that will make it a 4.3 engine size check the firing order firing order is 165432 also check the coil (it has a tendency to short you will know if it is) cansmo_181.gifcansmo_182.gifmake sure the distributor rotation is check

The code that comes up is p0141. the book says that it is a O2 sensor heater malfunction. But the book does not show me where the O2 sensor heater is located. I'm confused. I have located the 02 sensors. 4...

P0141 is O2 Heater Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 2) It will be the sensor AFTER the cat on the side that has #1 cylinder. On your car it's the PASSENGER side.

P134, p0141, po300, po130 and po135. 2005 Sunfire.

Given that most of the trouble codes are for the O2 sensor, I think I would change it. The multiple misfires could be because of improper fuel/air mixture caused by a bad sensor. Disconnect the negative(-) battery terminal then change the sensor. Disconnecting the negative(-) should reset the computer and allow the fuel/air mixture to return to default allowing the engine to start.
P0130 - O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0134 - O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0141 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

Random engine misfiring- fault code P0300- 1999 cutlass

Could be coil pack(s), fuel injectors, etc. Rather than retype it, just check out this great article on P0300 random misfire - http://www.obd-codes.com/p0300

Trouble codes

Hi Sandra!
The trouble codes listed are defined as:

P0141 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0331 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

PO300 & PO331 are possibly symptomatic of issues caused by PO141, which would have a direct influence on the air/fuel mxture... which could cause missing and knocking.

So the first thing I would try is replacing the Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor, after making sure the wiring and connections to that sensor are in good shape.

Does the engine show any physical issues such as loosing coolant, smoking exhaust, overheating? A blown or leaking head gasket on the #2 bank could also present these (among other)
codes.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
